I'm an incoming transfer student in ChemE at UC San Diego, and while I have finished all of my lower division requirements, no engineering specific courses were offered at my community college, so I'll be starting out at the same level as a sophomore would. I expect to take three years post-transfer, but I'd like to know more about the internship process and how likely it is someone would be able to get an internship with just the sophomore-level classes finished (while I do have the option to double-up on the sophomore sequence and junior year sequence, it is not recommended by the school's advisors).

Even a sophemore without much engineering course experience can get an internship. The trick is a good resume, good gpa, and acing the behavioral interview.

I transferred from CC and had an internship the summer after one year at the 4 year college (end of sophomore year). In fact, I set the record for the most internship offers in my class. After sophomore year, most people had an internship as well as junior year.
