transfer students?

i checked the website for transfer applications, but there's absolutely no requirements listed (that i saw at least.) is a full year of college necessary to transfer to tulane or do they accept students in their first semester of freshman year?

I see nothing that says you cannot transfer after one semester, although it is rather unusual. It does say that applications must be received by November 1 for entry in the spring semester, and by June 1 for entry in the fall semester. Are you already planning to transfer, or did you start college this spring somewhere else?

thank you for your reply, fallenchemist.
no, i am actually i high school senior as of now, and yes, i do realize this situation is rather unusual. what happened was, in the fall i was very interested in two schools, tulane and the university of richmond. after receiving a deferral from tulane, i applied ED to richmond and was accepted, and i withdrew my tulane application. however, as time went by i’ve come to really regret my decision as i realize tulane really was the school for me. while i’m definately going to give richmond a shot, it would be at least a comforting feeling to know i can quickly transfer to tulane if i’m unhappy there.
i also realize that applying after 1 semester means my acceptance would be based almost entirely on my high school grades. with my original deferral i know that my acceptance is not guarenteed, but i’m assuming it would be much easier to get into tulane in the spring semester than it would be for fall, considering i won’t be up against 45,000 other applicants, wouldn’t you agree?

Actually no, I don’t agree. After a year at Richmond you will be going for slots opened up by the 5-10% of students that transfer from Tulane, not for freshman slots. My suggestion would be that A) you give Richmond a real chance. I don’t know much about the school and clearly Tulane appears more academically competitive, but you really have to go in with an open mind and with the mindset that you are there for 4 years. That is the only way to fairly assess it. B) you work your butt off during that year and get the best grades you possibly can. Since the deadline for Fall 2011 transfer apps is June 1, they will have a full year of your grades to go by. That way if you do decide to transfer you have the best shot of getting in.

Good luck!
