I'm a current CC student who is filing a TAG agreement for Fall 2011 transfer. I would like to know if we are required to post courses that aren't UC transferable/not on the list of courses in the Tag app (it'll drop my gpa), and how far into the year do we list our planned courses? I've only noted the planned courses for Fall 2010 because those are the classes that I know I am registered for.

And..
Do you think that UCI would give me a TAG contract when I'm just taking my required college Math course this fall? I'll finish my IGETC and Davis Psychology requirements by the end of the fall quarter, but not all the requirements for Irvine yet. Those are my top 2 tag schools, since UCLA doesn't offer one.

I’d TAG everywhere except Riverside and Merced. It just gives you more options later–maybe one school will offer you a surprising amount of financial aid that the others don’t. Irvine might take you, they might not, but you might as well ask, right?

As for courses, include everything. Let them figure it out. The GPA is based on transferrable coursework only, but if you don’t put everything, there’s a good chance your admission will be rescinded for not listing everything.

As for future classes, put what you’d like to take as “planned,” then update your application once you register. You can plan to take classes you haven’t yet registered for. When you update the application, it will likely be in January, and you’ll list the classes you did get as “in progress.” You should change your Fall classes to “in progress” as well, since by the time you submit your TAG contract in September, they will be.

Are there any negative effects from TAG’ing places where you might not be eligible for TAG?

I was thinking about TAG’ing UCI as well. If they count my DeVry work, I’m ineligible. If they don’t, I think I’m eligible. I just don’t want to suffer any consequences from wrongfully trying to TAG with them, but if they simply tell you you’re ineligible then I’m going to TAG a bunch of places.

I just took a look at UCSD’s TAG site. From what I’m seeing, you need to complete 60 transferrable units by the end of Spring, 30 of which must be completed at a CCC. I can’t find a minimum that must be completed by when you submit the TAG contract. I suppose you could theoretically take 60 units in Spring, and none before, and qualify.

However, you do have to finish your math and English courses by the end of Fall, so that’s at least 9 units (probably more–math classes are often worth 4 or 5 units). You also need to be enrolled at a CCC for at least two semesters. So, again theoretically, you could take 9 units in Fall and 51 in Spring and still qualify.

The other caveat is the “30 units at a CCC” issue. I’m not sure if that means you need to have completed 30 units before you fill out your TAG contract, or if it just means 30 of your 60 units must be from a CCC. I think it’s the second, but none of the criteria is 100% clear.

This is all academic (ha!) anyway. It would be pretty hard to take 30 units in Spring and (if your CCC offers it) Winter anyway.
