Transfer to Ohio State as veteran

I'm currently a junior who just took a semester off following a deployment (I enlisted in the Army to pay for college). I was at a small liberal arts college near pittsburgh with a $40,000 price tag per year I simply can't afford anymore.

Anyways, I'm trying to transfer to Ohio State. I have 58 credits and my GPA averaged around a 3.3, but the last semester I was there, I got an F and a D, bringing my cumulative down to a 2.7ish. Both of those were classes I missed final exams in, due to deployment.

26 on the ACT's.

I'm a German major and placed at the 300 level my freshman year.. I've taken nothing but 400 level classes since then. From 9th grade until now, I've never had anything lower than an A in German, so my major GPA is probably a 4.0 or higher. Only need a few more classes to fulfill my major requirements.

I played college football for 2 years, was in the German club and college republicans, also in the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Will they overlook the last semester because of deployment? It's absolutely killing my cumulative GPA and really hurting my chances due to circumstances beyond my control. Also, will being a veteran help with being admitted to a state university?

My last college was pretty selective (Washington and Jefferson), so will they take that into consideration? I have no idea how the transfer application process works.

If my chances aren't that great, are there any other colleges you'd recommend?

Thanks!

should probably clarify.. I was in the military before entering college, it was an Iraq deployment that screwed up my grades during the last semester I was there.. (gotta love how they call you up halfway through so you can't withdraw or drop the classes without losing thousands of dollars)

I'm a PA resident applying for the spring trimester btw.

My sister goes there too, something I made sure to mention in the personal statement.

please help me out here with a chance! I'll return the favor.

buuuuuump

any advice?

Sorry you want to go to OSU - I work at Michigan!
But to help you out -
1)If you can retake the courses you did poorly on that would be a help to bring those up to the 3.0+ level you were at.
2)Also, can you appeal those grade from that insitution because you were on deployment - talk to the Dean of the college if you have to but you should be able to get that resolved.
3)In your applicaiton essays clearly explain your problem and cite your other great academic achievements to back that up. You should be honest with your application but if you are a great student - say you are a great student and show them why. Also, put in what you have done in the military, how that makes you a better person and student and how you can bring those qualities of leadership, maturity, determination and committment to the classroom. Since I used to work there (OSU) I can say this at least to you: Go Bucks!
