Transfer to UCLA or USC

I will be a freshman at UCSB this coming fall. I know that I don't want to stay there. As far as I know I can apply as a transfer student for USC but I am not sure about LA. Do you guys have any advice on what classes I should take and all that other stuff?

give up your deposit and go to a cc for two years

good advice~

why exactly? because I don't want to wait two years.

i think that ucla accepts applications only for junior-level transfers. so you would have to stay at ucsb 2 years, unless you have enough ap credits and cc credits from high school. keep your GPA up, and you should be able to transfer.

No, you dont have to go to a CCC. CCC students do have a slightly better shot at transferring to another UC, but the gap isnt massive. Transferring from UC to UC isnt nearly as impossible as people on this board make it out to be. I think its good to be within the UC system all 4 years as the transition will not be as rough upon your transfer. As for your question, you cannot apply to transfer into a UC unless you have 90 quarter units. As for classes just take some ground work for your major, check out LA's site, they have all the info you need to transfer into any major. Also make sure you get your GE out of the way. In any case good luck

so I have to have 90 units when I apply? because i can always get more credits throug clep i think and i have ap and cc credits alreayd.how about usc?

With USC you can apply to transfer as a sophomore...

Go to UCSB, get a very good GPA, and you'll have a near positive shot at getting at USC.

Go to USC. You won't regret it.

yup, ucsb will give you an edge in admissions when you're applying to usc because they know it is a good school and take that into consideration.

ucsb is a good school?

Thx that really helps! so just another question. i choose my classes and I am currently taking Math 34A (Calc) Chemistry 1A + Lab , Intro to Acting and Film Studies. Is that good enoug for them or should I take harder classes because I can still change my schedule for another few hours.

CC definitely has better chance of transfer admission to UCLA.
CC has primary consideration into admission to UCLA over other state university transfer students, and if you are in TAP program, you are basically being the very first choice of candidate for UCLA.
Plus CC is cheaper.

UCs dont have TAP program with UCLA, nor it is a cc.
dreamingoflions, what's your major?
You do know that when you transfer, you MUST choose a major.
If you are in cc, depending on your major, you'll be able to transfer with at least 3.5 GPA, and even with a 3.2 if the major is not impacted.

I recommend cc.

Well, thats the thing. UCSB does not have my major so I want to transfer. Currently my plans are for pre-med and Architecture for USC which will be hard I guess. For UCLA it would be architectural studies or design media arts.
Would it be easier if I just apply as a freshman and do something else this year?

UCLA is a better school at half the price of USC. And UCS is bad with aid for transfers.

wow that's the most biased and uninformed statement I've seen in a while, bobby100.

Check the USC thread, someone got a full ride, and most of has half rides that have gotten aid. Check before you bash us.

UCLA Better school??

let me tell you something. in a job market, its all about who you know, not what you know. if you're planning on staying in socal, usc is clearly you're better choice in terms of networking an connections. bobby100, go get your ucla degree and work at a carwash. have fun!

and atleast usc girls look like girls.

O not this again....My office is actually full of both USC grads and UCLA grads since I work in Calabasas. They are both good schools. It is really up to the student to make good contacts. There are not more or less contacts at either of these schools.

"if you're planning on staying in socal, usc is clearly you're better choice in terms of networking an connections."

No, not really everywhere there are USC grads there are UCLA grads.

Puts on flame suit

LOL (10 chars)
