Transfer to UCLA

Hi I posted not to long ago and got a limited response so i am gonna try a different angle. I currently have a 3.43 GPA and I have all of the GE done. Just trying to get some more units done to fill in the required 60. I have the activities and community service down. I am a california community college kid.I am hoping to raise my gpa close to a 3.5 or over by semesters end but don't know yet. I will be transferring in history. what are my chances for ucla.

Hey a few questions for you that'd help figure out your chances. Have you done any honors work, or are you have you completed TAP? Also have you completed all of the lower division reqs?

My first susgestion for you is to boost your GPA somewhat. I remember from my application process that all the counslers (several of these from UCLA) I spoke with told me that generally you will need rougly a 3.5. However you're close to that mark, so I think you've got a chance.

Umm first thanks for responding. I have completed the IGETC already and I am taking two classes and history which is my major and two filler classes. I have no honors or the like. I work part time. I was also wondering. If i take one class during the winter will the UCLA see the results from that winter class before the decision is made. just wondering. thanks.

If I remember correctly you have to submit your final update to the UC's sometime in early Feb. However it's been a while, so I might be a bit off on my timing, so look into it. Having IGETC and your major prep done will help you. My best advice for you at this point is to work as hard as you possibly can. A 4.0 this semester would look very nice to the people at UCLA. Also make sure to write some very strong essay's. If your school has a TAP program, sign up for it ASAP. It never hurts to have things like that on your application.

whats your major, UCLA provides a list of transfer admission stats that includes the GPA of appliers and admits. its very helpful to give you a clear picture on where you're at

My major is History and i have already seen the list.think it's averages 3.7 for applies and 5.3 for admits. But i'm just wondering and thinking that some of those admitted have to fall somewhere in the 3.4 range.

i dont know what list your looking at, but a GPA higher than 5.0 is a sheer impossibility

<a href="http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof05_mjr.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof05_mjr.htm</a></p>

for history, it is considered an impact major meaning its overcrowded and harder to get into.

however the stats for fall of 05 stands as follows

533 applied, 348 accepted 65% acceptance rate
ave GPA of appliers 3.37
ave GPA of accepted 3.53

i think your fine

sorry im a dumbass boy whay what a typo. sorry hahaha. i meant 3.53. haha.

wingzero thanks for replying i really appreciate it. So you think im fine with a 3.4 or somewhere in there. I'm hoping to get a 4.0 this in the fall so my gpa will shoot up to a 3.53 which is the average admitted. thanks again for responding. Do you go to ucla or where do you go.

im planning to transfer out this year as well, maybe to UCLA for polysci

Everything at UCLA for the most part is going to be impacted. I got in as a History major, with a 3.92 GPA.

good for you. that's awesome to hear. great gpa too.
