Transfer to UC's in one year! Need help!

Okay, so my high school stats were pretty bad thats why i didnt get into any UC's that I wanted to go to, but I got into Cal Poly Pomona. But I dont want to go there. So I think I might go to SMC, the local community college and then transfer, however, I do not want to wait 2 years to transfer as a junior. So can anybody please advise on transferring as a sophomore to let's say, UC Irvine? I can probably pull out with a 3.8-4.0 gpa with EC's, and a strong load of classes.

So If I apply after just one year in community college, is there a chance I might get into UC Irvine?

If you can get above 3.8 with EC's and a strong load of classes, you can even get into UC Berkeley :)

subzerozman, I suggest you looking into PAIF program. I'm sure SMC has it since it's one of the biggest community college in California.

PAIF is a transfer alliance program that GUARANTEES your admission to UC Irvine once you fulfill the requirement.

<a href="http://www.smc.edu/transfer/services/guaranteed.htm#UCI%5B/url%5D">http://www.smc.edu/transfer/services/guaranteed.htm#UCI</a></p>

You're welcome :)

subzerozman: the answer is no

thanx alot dhl3, i have already seen that program. but i wanted to specifically know if you could do all of the requirement within a year.

why no lostincode??

^ hahah

you were just like me. i applied and got rejected to all except cal poly pomona for landscape(my 2nd major) but i wanted to get in as architecture, so i decline and just went to cc.

doing it within one year seems kinda far sketched. you must really want to party like all your college friends, eh?
2 years is very short IMO. live with it.

btw, if you don't have the required units to transfer, they ask for your HS, SAT scores, and etc to supplement your transfer, but since you said your gpa wasnt that great, it might be the best to stay for 2 years.

Isn't 1 year transfers possible? As long as the student loads up summer/winter with courses..he should be OK. If he has AP's, that speeds up everything.

reread his original post

well i have 2 ap's that i have passed and that i can use for college credit. but i plan on taking courses this summer and next summer too in order to complete all the requirements.

if you complete all the requirements, you won't be transferring as a sophomore, but as a junior

Yes you can transfer in 1 year, but you'll be transfering as junior status and not sophmore.

You will have to complete the unit requirement (60 semester units or 90 quarter units) needed to be a junior in 1 year.

thanx alot mylife. so do you think i should start this summer?

does this work for usc as well?

Yes definitely start in the summer, you should plan your entire schedule for the year right now to finish the units accordingly.

Looks like you're gonna be attending SMC and they're a semester school. So between Summer 07 - Fall 07- Spring08 you will need to to complete 60 units (if you don't have any AP credit). Also, i'm not exactly sure, because my school is in the quarter system, but i think semester schools have a winter session thats 4 weeks long as well (18 week course shrinked to 4 weeks).

Also to be blunt: You are essentially "doubling" up on the average units since you are trying to transfer to a UC in 1 year so keep that in mind in regards to keeping a competitive GPA and having little time to go out for the year.
Good luck

^confused_junior: my response was for UC's but for other schools they (i THINK usc does this, not sure) do accept sophmore transfers but they do take your HS stats into account if you were gonna transfer with sophmore standing.

mylifeisover23, thanks, but do you know if i can start in the summer with the credits so that USC won't have to look at my hs stats?

dude, you have no idea how much you just helped me out. that is exactly the type of answer I was looking for.

Okay, I currently go to SMC so I can say that you have to take at least 2 classes in the summer at 5 units each, take at least 20 units in the fall, take at least two classes in the summer at 5 units each, take at least 20 units in the spring and you should be fine.
if you plan on getting tap certified be aware of the course load.
This one year plan is VERY intensive. Plan on not having a life for a year.
My friend got into berkeley as a junior his first year but there was NO way he was able to finish 60 units...which YOU MUST

don't get below a 3.5 (depending on what UC you want to go too) or you might as well do the two year :/...that seems ridiculously hard though.
i know riverside and usc and some other colleges accept only 30 units though so that might be a better option depending on where u want to go.
GOODLUCK!

Don't forget, you can squeeze in short term classes at other schools during long term vacations, etc.

Online classes are especially useful to jam in extra credits, useful for the insane student..that is.

Smmr9
Squeeze 3
Fall 18
Squeeze 3
Winter9
Spring18

And about 10+ units pass fail

Maybe you can register for a online course right now at one of the quarter system schools (De anza and foothill college) but THIS is the first week of spring quarter so you would have to contact the instructor for an add code.
