Transfer to UVA; what are my chances?

Currently a Freshman at George Mason University with one semester done. My GPA was a 3.8 this semester in serious classes (Economics, biology, public speaking, composition, computing). My high school GPA was a 3.1 (...yea I know) with a 2010 SAT. This year I spent my summer and winter break working at GSA (General Services Administration) a government job in a professional environment. Applying as a Biology major and taking 2nd level bio and chem courses next semester. Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

your chances are good kid, UVA is usually quite friendly to transfer applicants

Thats good to hear. I’ve heard mixed things from all my friends. If anyone has been through the UVA transfer process please post any advice you have.

Hey, i’m a prospective transfer student and I’ve been mainly eyeing USC (southern California) for Communication and UVA for English.

I just got my grades back for Fall semester: A, A, A, A-, B. Final: 3.73 gpa.

I go to Penn State, btw.

My high school grades were so…blah. 3.3-3.4 gpa, 1800 SAT, 27 ACT.

I’m mostly taking gen eds that both school require, but I was wondering if UVA is a realistic for me? If it’s not, then I wouldn’t even bother applying. I’m planning on keeping my gpa above the 3.7 line for Spring semester. At Penn State, I’ve become massively involved with the school’s newspaper, student film organization, and lgbt organization. Is UVA not lgbt friendly? Overall, would I be considered competitive for UVA? My essays will be good, so don’t worry about that.

Sorry about hijacking the thread Mango!

Mango: you’re chances are decent. You have good test scores and a good college GPA. The only thing holding you back at this point is your high school GPA. I think that you have a shot and you should definitely apply.

To the other person who replied, post your own thread since you have more specify questions. I can definitely answer them, but don’t want to hijack mangos thread

I just made my own thread on the UVA board!
