Hey, everyone. I am an international student and have been accepted by all of three schools as a junior transfer. I will be a stat/math major.

To me in general UVA and Emory sounds more prestigious than UNC, not sure for my major, but UVA will cost me $10K more than UNC every year, and Emory will cost me 20K more than UNC every year because I can not apply financial aid.

Some people told me Emory is better because its rank is higher and it is a private school, there will be more opportunities to get a job after graduate.

My parent told me money is not a problem because I can earn it back if I get a decent job after graduate. To me it looks like UVA and Emory graduate will find a job easier than UNC graduate because UVA is closed to D.C and Emory is in Atlanta (correct me if I am wrong), and getting a decent job is the most important reason why I transfer.
Please help me to decide one. Any information will be appreciated.

I seem to be quoting rankings all day today. The rankings of the math departments at the schools are as follows.

UNC #30
UVA #46
Emory #63

These are grad school rankings but until someone comes up with recent undergrad department rankings, they will have to do.

The undergrad rankings are

Emory #17
Virginia #24
North Carolina #28

I don’t see them as far enough apart to justify spending $10-20K a year more to attend. Also, UNC is the strongest in the department you like.

I would go to UNC and save the money. Is grad school down the road for you? If so, save the money for that.

All three are wonderful universities. Congratulations!

UVA, Emory is not any more prestigious than UNC. They are practically in the same tier.

Based on the ranking posted above, UNC wouldn’t be a bad choice. Since you are junior transfer, the maximum difference would only be 20-40k. Just choose the school that fits you.

I already answered this question with regards to UNC and UVA. The addition of Emory does not change my recommendation. UNC is fine.

I would go with UNC. It has a large alumni base too, which could help you with a job in the future.
