Currently , I am a second - semester student at grossmont community college. I plan to transfer to SDSU under a business admin major.
If I need 60 units to transfer , would finishing with over the required number of units affect my chances of acceptance?
Would the excess units go towards my bachelors degree? If not , would taking extra units be a waste ?
Please let me know ASAP, my registration is tomorrow (11/28)
The CSU’s can accept a maximum of 70 transferable semester (105 quarter) units from community colleges. The extra units would go towards your degree if they are transferable and required.
Would having more than the 60 mean a better chance of acceptance?
And I’m stuck between Spanish or humanities, what do you think?
Spanish is 5 and humanities is 3 units , I’m take 3 other classes as well
Do you know if SDSU looks at what classes / electives a student takes ?
Lastly , how can you find out whether the extra units are transferable ?
Don’t you have a CSU transfer advisor at Grossmont? You can use assist.org to determine which classes are CSU transferable. You need a minimum 60 units for transfer and having more than 60 will not give you a better chance. What gives the best chances at an acceptance at SDSU is being local, having a high GPA and meeting the major transfer requirements.
Have you completed the Golden Four?
CSU general education requirements (“Golden Four”) are designated as the following:
Oral Communication
Written Communication
Critical Thinking
Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning
Would a language class be considered oral communication as well?
No, a speech class would be considered Oral Communication.

So I made my final decision
Humanities 3 units
Business calc 4
Managerial Accounting 4
Communications 3
Hopefully I made the right choice !
I did speak with the advisors at SDSU , and they told me it’s just important to get the GED finished no matter what the class as long as you have 30 units of classes that aren’t under your major (electives)
Good luck
