Transfer with a low GPA

This will be quite long.

I currently have a 2.1 GPA at the start of the Fall Semester, and I am still technically considered a sophomore even though this is my third year. I started my Sophomore Year (Fall semester last year) in college with a 3.1 GPA. I failed 2 classes and I’ve dropped 3 already. I’ve only got one D+ and 2 C’s (the rest have been A’s and B’s). God willing, I’ll end this semester with a 3.4 (but it’ll bring my cumulative only to a 2.3). My question is, would it make sense to transfer? I don’t know if anyone is familiar with John Jay, but is it hard to get into? Do they do an interview? I know my GPA looks terrible, but I’ve been doing so bad because attendance will weight grades down and even though I’ve deserved nothing less than B’s, I’ll get C’s because I miss too many classes (which isn’t fair in my opinion). I just feel like if I had a chance to explain what happened they’d give me the benefit of the doubt. So should I try to transfer? And do you know of any colleges that might accept me with a 2.1-2.3? Or if any colleges that will do an interview prior to making a decision? Thanks a lot!!

So . . … you should probably spend another year at CC and try to do better in your classes if only to learn how to be a better student before moving on. That being said, John Jay’s average GPA for freshmen is 2.84. I suspect that you could get accepted there. They accept 50% of their class with less than 3.0 average –

I urge you to take time to analyze why your grades are so low. Take a moment with someone you trust and who can be objective and see if you can figure that out before you move forward in college. Making amends and learning new study habits may make the rest of your college career more enjoyable and rewarding.

Best of luck.

Why do you miss classes?
