Transfer

Hey so I'm at University of Minnesota right now and I'm thinking about transferring to Seattle, do you think it'd be worth it? I'm currently majoring in Psych and I like it so far, however, I can't stand the freezing temperatures during winter so I'm thinking about Seattle. What sucks is that i would have to pay around $25,000 more a year. What do you guys think?

If I were you I would rather spend those extra $25k on very warm winter cloths, heaters, coffee, and other stuff that can make your life a bit comfortable.
Seattle’s weather isn’t perfect either.

I agree with seatac. I don’t think cold whether alone justifies an extra 25,000 (are you rich?)

Plus, UW doesn’t take many transfers from other universities/colleges (most of those slots go to instate community colleges).

But the thing is that I’m paying with student loans either way. So wouldn’t it make sense to at least enjoy the next two years rather than feeling like I’m being tortured by the brutal winters and where it’s painful to breathe?

Dirtydiaper, even thought you are paying with student loans you ARE paying. Not now - but you will have to pay in the future. I know that it’s easier to spend money when you will have to repay it only later… but you might feel the effect on your pocket only later.

We aren’t trying to convince you that your decision is wrong - you will decide whatever is best for you anyway. And if the weather is the deciding factor - fine.

What I’m trying to say is that you should try to make a cost/benefit analysis. I don’t know how long winters are in Minnesota, but paying additional $25k/year for several months of comfort (that’s how it’s essentially) seems too much. This is money you can spend on getting your Masters (which as a Psych major you should probably get)… here in Seattle!

Plus, like travelgirl said above - UW doesn’t like transfers from other universities. I’m not sure if weather would be a convincing factor for them to admit a transfer.

Here is another option: can you take the summer quarter or semester at your current U and skip the winter quarter/semester? Instead you can spend it at home.
