I'm really interested in transferring to rice for my sophomore year of undergrad. Anyone have any advice/know of anyone that has been accepted to Rice as a transfer? Do they take as few transfers as all the Ivies/other top tier schools? Thanks in advance!

Hey poo194! I am a sophomore transfer matriculating this fall. In terms of transfers, Rice is pretty generous compared to its peer institutions. According to Rice’s website, they usually bring in 60 transfers (sophomore + junior) each year. They accept more than that obviously, and the amount of applicants is typically somewhere in the 450-500 range. We will have to wait to see the numbers from this year, because it was supposed to be far less than usual. I was told 35 originally but I know it was a little more than that. Not sure if that trend will continue, as it was supposed to compensate for a highly overenrolled freshman class from last year.

Since I’m not at Rice yet, I don’t have all that much “insider” information. Maybe some current students could weigh in?

I don’t know much beyond what the above poster said. However, it’s my understanding that the number of transfers they’re hoping to enroll should return to the usual number; this year’s reduced overall enrollment targets were indeed temporary to compensate for overenrolling the Class of 2015. I don’t think there’s any intention to reduce the proportion of the incoming class that’s made up of transfer students, so the target should go back up accordingly.
