Has anyone ever transferred back to a community college after like 1st semester because they didn’t like it at their current college?
Yes! It happens all the time and it is not a big deal.
oh really? do you know anyone close who did that? @bhs1978
@MrNoMercy24
This may not be what you’re looking for, but in my first job I met a guy who finished his freshman year at the state flagship, then transferred to local U, then went transferred to community college again for financial reasons (flagship was too expensive).
I don’t know of anyone who spent a semester at a university and then went back home to CC ‘because they didn’t like their college.’
@Fredjan my plan is to go to a CC then transfer to a 4 year which is also a very good college. I don’t see the point of spending thousands of dollars on a place where you don’t feel good
I personally know several kids from my sons class who left for a semester then returned for community college. Some have transferred on after getting their associates and some left again after a year at community college. Really great friends of ours had a child who did just that. Hated her school first semester. Came back and did three semesters at community college. She transferred to a major research university after that and is doing fantastic and she has been a top pick of her professors for research internships. She’s currently a senior, doing research and will be graduating on time and already has job offers.
It’s not a big deal at all and has many positives financially.
@MrNoMercy24
Sounds like a solid plan. Good luck!
omg thank you so much to both of you! also I had two questions. 1) Will I have to start all over again or would I continue from second semester at a community college?
2) Will I have to write that I attended a college for a semester? Thanks in advance!
- You’d most likely continue from second semester at CC. However, you should confirm that your credits from your current university and CC will transfer to the 4-year university you intend to attend.
- Yes, mention in your admissions and financial aid applications that you attended your current university for a semester!
Will that have a bad impact on my resume? @Fredjan

For job applications? I wouldn’t know. Perhaps someone else on this forum (a company manager or recruiter) can chime in on that respect.
yeah i know several people who did that
mostly because of financial reasons and grades though, or because they preferred their circle of friends/family back home. or they decide to change majors and realize their school doesnt have the program they want.
it’s common. as long as you weren’t a jerk about going to a university before you do it, you’ll be fine. i remember some people who switched to community college were people who originally sort of looked down on cc’s and thought they were better than those who weren’t going to a 4 year. and then life happens and they end up in the same place as the rest of us. but hey not like it matters or anything, at cc you don’t necessarily see those same people you went to hs with anyways since you all take different classes and people are adults and don’t care about petty things said in the past lol. everyone is chiller.
those were people whom i knew from high school. there were also several people in some of my college classes who originally went to 4 years and then came to CC. mostly because of grades. some of where from the other coast so it i highly doubt they switched because of financial reasons (if not, you’d think they would have stayed over there instead of moving to the 2nd most expensive city) but hey maybe they have family here or something.
i knew one girl who actually went to our local UC, but wanted to transfer to our local state university, so she had to take community college classes because state didn’t accept her science courses from the UC because they didn’t include a lab based component. thought that was really funny given the obvious superiority of that UC when it comes to science and the thought that it wasn’t enough for that supposedly “subpar” state school haha. i think she switched because the UC wasn’t her fit. too competitive and harsh, professors didn’t truly care about the teaching, everyone kept failing classes. they were overly hard as if attempting to simply break everyone instead of actually attempting to teach the information. it just wasn’t the right fit, and for her switching schools was the best option.
so yeah, it happens for all sorts of reasons.
cool now I feel less pressured thanks! @otoribashi
