Transfer?

Hi,

I'm kind of considering transferring to UCLA. Well... TRYING to at least. If I get in. I'm only a freshman but I took some university class as a senior in high school and also have 54 credits of AP at my school. And according to UCLA's ap chart... it's apparently 72 credits. (which is a lot... I'm not sure if they will give me that much credit) So by the end of the year I will have around 100 credits here at my school and about the same at UCLA if everything were to transfer over. I go to UW Madison so I don't think there would be that much of a problem?

Anyways... my GPA might not be the best after this first semester. Probably a 3.6 since I'm most likely going to get a B in my chem class. But it's also an accelerated honors course which basically means it's a year of chem in one semester and honors on top of that. Again... I'm not sure how they view this but I think my school has like a statement about the course.

So... this post is long enough. Do I have a little bit of a chance of transferring here? Thank you.

Thats an impressive record for a freshman! I also took alot of A.P units and not all of them transfer so you’ll need to call and find out which ones will transfer over. I don’t know your major, so I can’t tell you wether you have a good chance of getting in or not. In the end, improving your chances of getting in all really comes down to getting all your pre-reqs done and obtaining a good gpa.

yep finish those pre reqs and maintain (if not raise) that gpa. And DAMN that’s alot of APs…i took like 2 -_-
where are you from?

I’m planning on Molecular Biology or Neuroscience. My school had a lot of AP courses so I ended up taking 16 tests but consequently failing 3 of the. lol. Haha, I’m from Wisconsin… it’s too cold here. I heard the minimum GPA acceptable is 3.5 so 3.6 is not too low is it? They will probably not get my grades from second semester will they?

Yeah I think the average is around a 3.7 gpa for UCLA. They will get your grades from spring semester after you find out wether you have gotten in or not. Those kinds of majors are always super impacted, so Good Luck on your application process.

I transferred from a community college to UCLA with a 3.7 gpa, and my roommate from UC Davis transfered with either a 3.4 or higher (biochem major). If you want a better chance, I would suggest looking at majors that are not impacted. Like majors that have the highest acceptance rate for them. It will really help your chances. Also, you will have to submit your personal statements again and all that good stuff.

BUT HEY!

Come to UCLA, everyone that goes here loves this school. The classes are great, it’s kinda competitive (ie: I’m still up at 2am studying for my comparative politics midterm in 10 hours),the social life is awesome, the food is top notch, it’s kinda raining right now, but it’s usually sunny, and it’s just an all around awesome place to be. Plus the girls here…Uh-mazing.

Yup^^ everything he said is correct and more :)

Sorry to bump an old thread but I had a question about the personal statement. I’m kind of stuck on the transfer question. I’ve only been in college for 3 months so I really don’t have much experience in the major I’m appying to. Does this make a huge difference?? :S

experience in the major doesn’t make a huge difference. I don’t really remember the question asked, but if I recall correctly it asked about why you want to join this major. You can have been involved in the major for two weeks and still have a legitimate reason as to why you chose it. Experience isn’t a big deal, but from my understanding that the applications have already been turned in. I hope you got it all figured out and good luck.
