Transfering colleges, bad first semester at old college, will I lose my FAFSA?

I went to a university and at first I did well, but once I found out that I wouldn't be able to return for the Spring (due to various non grade reasons on their end), my grades started to slip. To be completely honest, I'm pretty sure I failed most if not all of my classes and I'm not proud of this. Anyway I am transferring to an instate university for the Spring and my GPA is not transferring with me. If I do well there will I lose my federal aid or no?

I am transferring universities because my former college was out of state and the commute drastically affected my grades.

Depending on your GPA…

Check the your college SAP and see if you’re still satisfied

FA is not just based on GPA. Each school must have a SAP policy and it includes GPA and a minimum successful completion of all credits ever attempted (usually seems to be between 66% and 75%). You would need to check with your school for their policies and to see if there is an appeal process.

If you *are *ineligible, you can regain FA in the future if you get your GPA and completion rate up to the required levels. You would have to pay out of pocket in the meantime.
