Transfering from a community college to American

I looked on their admissions page for transfers and it said that it should have been this week. I’m really nervous. Maybe this have more applicants this year? I think I’m going to call.

Thanks for the link, I think I will too. Kind of put my eggs (unfortunately) all in the American university basket haha. So I’ll be bummed if this is a bad sign.

I actually decided to just email them first. If I don’t receive a reply soon, I will then call. I’ll let you know what I hear.

I called and they said that apparently they received my last supporting document on the 17th of November which is weird because I had sent it 3 weeks prior. Oh well. The point is I will probably hear back toward the later side of December which kind of sucks but they did say it was in evaluation so that’s good i guess! I did too unfortunately. I would call and see if everything is good with your app. Customer service is super helpful.

I will definitely do that thank you! Yeah I’m figuring that’s what is to blame for the delay for me as well. They received my last transcript around the 14th I believe. We’re going to hear like two weeks before we have to be on-campus if we get in haha.

the admissions assistant said 4-6 weeks after they receive your application. Maybe earlier, maybe later. Haha a little vague. But yeah. It would be cutting it close but I’m reeeally hoping we do get it!

So I got an email back from admissions saying a decision has been made on my file and I will hear from them soon. Again… Vague. Also doesn’t sound great, but she might not be able to tell me either way if not authorized to do so. Not sure. Also she said to contact my admissions representative who she gave me the name of, with any further questions.

Update once again: check your mailbox! I just checked mine and got my acceptance packet. I still have yet to receive a letter from the financial aid office about the scholarship I applied for. So my attending depends on that. I’m pulling for you. Let me know. I’d say you’ll hear no later than next week.

whaaat! congrats!! I’ll keep right now

there seems to be a problem with my transcript  I’ll have to talk to them on monday.

So if I haven’t heard back yet do you think that means there’s something wrong with my application?

Thank you! It’s a frustrating process. I wish they would just send an email out once the decision was made so appropriate planning could be done you know. In any case I hope you get some answers asap!

@cerealbox12 It depends. When did you send in your application, and if possible do you know the date they recieved your last transcript? I think that has a lot to do with it. If they received your transcript past the deadline, I’m sure that is probably why they are taking longer to process your application. I know they go pretty in depth in the evaluation. I would contact admissions on Monday just to check the status.

@Rocky0117 Thanks! I think they must have received my transcript late…everything else I know came on time. I’ll definitely give them a call on Monday. So would the Prospective Student Portal say that the application was complete and under review even if it wasn’t? Because that was super misleading and the reason that I thought there wasn’t a problem until now…

Congratulations on getting in! @Rocky0117 would you mind telling me what your GPA and credentials looked like? I’m going to apply for the fall semester and I’m trying to gather all the info I can. If you do not want to share, no worries! Also, @cerealbox12 would you mind telling me yours as well? For the same reasons! I really hope you get in, I’ll be crossing my fingers for you!

@cerealbox12 If they are still missing a transcript it should say so on the portal. I know it did on mine until they finally received it. But they didn’t receive my last transcript until around the 14th of November, so I’m thinking that’s why it took longer for them to notify me. The site isn’t perfect though I noticed, as after I received my acceptance package in the mail the prospective student portal was still saying my application was being reviewed. So it still hadn’t been updated.
@Sonicpanda Thanks! My GPA is a 3.84 right now without my grades from this semester included. However, it should go up a little. I listed that I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and involved in my campus chapter. I had my PTK advisor write a letter to admissions to confirm that. I called financial aid to ask if I received the scholarship they offer for PTK members, and they said I did and would receive a letter from financial aid soon saying so. It’s around 10,000 dollars per year. So definitely look into that if you are eligible. It softens the blow a little since it is pretty pricey. I also listed I have consistently been on the Dean’s list. My extracurriculars are not amazing. Besides being involved in PTK I was only involved in art club where we would make art projects and auction them off around the holidays. I think good letters of recommendation make a difference as well. Good luck!

@Rocky0117 Oh ok! That’s so interesting then because my portal has definitely said it was complete since November 1… Well, I’ll just give admissions a call on Monday. Thanks for your help. Also, congrats on getting the PTK scholarship!! That’s awesome(:
@Sonicpanda Thank you!! And I can share you mine, but just know that I’m a freshman in college with only one quarter at Northwestern University so my circumstances could be different from yours. At NU I have a 4.0 and in high school I had a 4.2. My extracurriculars at NU aren’t great (I’ve only been there for a quarter…) but I am on NU’s speech team and have done a few other things (helped put on a drama production, am part of an environment club…) My app included a lot of high school things though because of how proximate that was, which might not be as applicable if you’re a transfer with more college credit(: Sorry if that’s not super helpful! I wish you luck!
