Transfering From Suny To Cuny

I have a transferring problem , I was admitted to Suny Cobleskill in upstate, NY just a year ago I spent 2 semester there. I transferred to Suny Albany (that's where I am right now) I was transferred with 27.5 credits from Cobleskill and just 24 credits were transferable. On January 26 I completed another transfer application to 4 CUNY's my selections were City College, John Jay, Lehman and city college of technology. I'm working on 14 credits this semester and of course my GPA is 0 right now, but when I was attending Cobleskill my GPA was 3.59. Now I wonder if they will accept me or they will need my final grades at any of the CUNY's? also another question is that if my old 27.5 credits will be transferable to the CUNY's I'm a Computer Science Major with a minor on business, hope some one gives me an opinion and/or help me out. I really want to move to the city I miss home and Cuny is cheaper and a bunch of opportunities are offered to me over there... so what do you think?

Whats the problem? Just send your transcript from Cobleskill, since that is your most recently completed academic work. I believe most of your credits should transfer from a suny to a cuny

im at cuny baruch now on a full scholarship as a freshman, and will probably leave for syracuse next fall. i advise most people from applying to a CUNY school bc it sucks the college life, years, and experience out of you. thats just my take.

What's wrong with CUNY, exactly?

appears there aren't enough parties going on for that fellow ;)

CUNY is good, there's nothing bad about CUNYs. it'll be backwards Cunys gives you money, diversity and near home and more opportunities for jobs. im at Suny Albany and its pretty hard to get a job here while studying idk what to do i've been askin my pop for money buh i believe im too old to ask for money.. so i believe that the economic problem is affecting SUNY way worse than CUNYs at least the city is big and you could find a job some where. here is impossible and bills are killing and i aint taking loans to pay them later, that'll be a waste of time and a spend of money

any one want to say something else here please?

i don't hate parties, but yeah seems like he can't get into clubs at the city... specially those hispanic clubs which are crazy...

any one else wants to say something?

I currently attend a SUNY on Long Island, and I can agree that it is not as easy to get a job. Mostly because of transportation and availability of jobs that are appealing. I, too, am considering transferring to a CUNY because it is much cheaper! I also miss home and the opportunities that are in NYC. It is easier to commute to any job that you may get and i feel that that is very important. In addition the food out here SUCKS! i'd rather be able to get to a deli or a restaurant whenever I can, and get some food that i want, instead of being stuck with the crap they provide on campus.

As far as wondering about your GPA, i agree that you should simply provide your first transcript, especially since that seems to be the one that has grades on it and shows how you've performed in college courses so far.
Good Luck!

thank you, yeah i see its hard in every suny its hard for people that doesnt have all resources, like having a car, having money, all of that is part of attending to a SUNY and right now the best decision of every one is to attend a CUNY first then if circumstances turn great you change to a SUNY and live with the flow lol, hope to get accepted to City College I still havent heard from CUNY but I hope they contact me and let me know about my admission status, good lucks to you too man, hope you get out of the pain (loans)

hate loans my man

FYI: the best CUNY schools (like Brooklyn, City College, Hunter, Queens) are well reputed in NYC.

Columbia 2. NYU 3. Fordham 4. Yeshiva (for those who are surprised check out Cardozo law and Einstein medical), then 5. CUNY

My younger D is a Freshman at Brooklyn (Macaulay Honors), and is applying to transfer elsewhere.

Don’t discount importance of the lack of dorms and “typical” college life to an 18-year-old.

Actually, if you are looking to go into business and you are in NYC, the heirachy would be Columbia, NYU Stern, Barcuh and then all others.

My biggest concern with all of your transfers is the loss of credits you will experience. It is a different situation if you were transferring with an associates degree and the school would take all 64/66 credits, but different schools will evaluate your credits differently. This is why I advise students theri first year of school to just take liberal arts courses that will pretty much transfer anywhere (and you will avoid the loss of credits). YOu will need to provide transcripts of all schools you have attended. if the grades were not available when you applied, you will definitely need the transcripts when it comes to evaluating your credits. Make sure you have official copies of your transcripts sent to your home (do not open them) so you can have them when you meet with your advisor to evaluate your credits.

Not a good move if you plan on working in NYC after graduation because you will not have the opportunities in Syracuse for internships (which are really important to have under your belt when trying to get your first job)that you would have be being in NYC. Syracuse is not experiencing the greatest of economies right now and depending on what it is you are looking to do, it may be hard to get an internship. $ for $ you would be better served staying at Baruch.

Each one of the CUNYs have their own niche;
For business- Baruch
Liberal arts- Queens, Brooklyn,
Education, Psychology, Nursing- Hunter
Engineering- City
Criminal Justice, Forensic science, Forensic psychology- John Jay
