well, i'm applying to ucla this year and if i don't get in i'm thinking about really working hard in college and transfering. However, i'm from ohio and out of state transfer into ucla is extremely tough. So i'm asking, what would I need to do to show that i would be ucla material and would it be possible to transfer in from out of state because i'd really like to go to ucla. Thanks guys.

Well, one thing is you need to consider how well your Ohio community college courses would transfer over. For instance, CA residents use something called Welcome to ASSIST to bridge the gap between the California Community Colleges (CCCs) and then the University of California (or California State University) systems. You'd be under some strain to make sure everything was bridged.

How about your state universities or even Case Western? Can you look into how effective your courses would transfer over there?

Not only would you be burdened with this issue and also, with choosing a major as a transfer student without a complete set of pre-requisites completed, and then again, against the competition of CCC students, you'd also need to consider the financial differential in terms of making up courses and more importantly, the OOS tuition burden.

So I'm applying to UCLA as a transfer, and when you select the campus, you also have to declare a major. However, the only majors available are the music and art majors. Does this mean that I have to apply as a freshman and start over??? Thanks!

Are you sure picked the right college? What major are you intending to choose?

anthro or soc
it's weird, because there are still open majors for juniors, but at the sophomore level most everything is closed..

uh, i thought you could only transfer as a junior...

yeah they only let 3rd year transfers in. (...unless you're an art or music major?)
