Is an AA required to transfer to A CSU, or is completing the IGETC good enough to transfer?

I'm almost complete with my IGETC requirements to transfer to a CSU. I focused on the requirements, and I haven't majored in anything until the beginning of my semester in my second year. Do I need an AA to transfer as well as the IGETC requirements, or do I just need the IGETC requirements to transfer?

Neither IGETC nor an AA are required to transfer to a CSU. CSU's have their own transfer patterns to follow (very similar to IGETC). Check out www.assist.org for details on transfer from your college to the specific CSU with a specific major.

P.S. If you want to, you can get your AA in General Studies (using IGETC), just to say you have it...

IGETC is not required, per se, but it will definitely count for your GEs if you do transfer. The AA, on the other hand, is completely optional. It won't even necessarily look good or bad later on; the only thing it might matter for is giving you something to fall back on if you don't complete your BA. If you've taken the pre-requisites for the major you want to be admitted to at the CSU, it might be worth it to focus your remaining electives on the courses required to complete the AA in that field if you think it would give you a better base from which to grow once you get to the CSU.

IGETC for CSU is exactly the same as IGETC for UC with the addition of a "speech" class (English 1C - Oral Communication or its equivalent) and a shifting of other requirements (for example, no need for a foreign language). Please make sure to double-check your CC's requirements for the IGETC and compare that to the CSU's IGETC agreement via www.assist.org.

Good luck!
