AA-T Question?

I will have an AA-T in May, this degree guarantees admission to one Cal State Univ. School.

I will not have a speech course which is required as part of the "Golden Four"

Does that mean I won't get in to the CSU I want, and that I'll be directed to one of the lower tier CSU's like CSUN that I did not apply to or what?

(You may question how I can get this degree without the Communication course which is a CSU requirement, well the CA legislation says

" (1) Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible
for transfer to the California State University, including both of the
following:
(A) The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)
or the California State University General Education-Breadth Requirements.
(B) A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or
area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district and
meeting the requirements of an approved transfer model curriculum.
(2) Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0.")

It requires completion of IGETC, not necessarily IGETC for CSU, I completed the IGETC for UC.

Bump

I think you have an IGETC AA-T which will mean nothing for CSUs.

@bomerr - It’s an AA-T granted pursuant to Sb1440, which guarantees it’s holder admission to the CSU system (at least one campus) and priority in other admissions decisions at other CSU campuses.

I’m only getting it because of a loophole in the California Educational Code which does not require the IGETC for CSU pattern but simply IGETC OR CSU GE-Breadth and I had to threaten the articulation people at my school with a lawsuit because later in the same Ed Code section it states that Districts shall not add any additional requirements, and they attempted to add the requirement of it being IGETC for CSU and not just IGETC which the law states.

^ Have you got confirmation from the CSUs yet? Cuz everyone is getting into them right around now. If you haven’t got acceptance letters than something is up.

Have you talked to your transfer advisers about this? Will you have a verification form of your AA-T to send into the schools you’ve applied to?

@bomerr - I haven’t submitted transcripts yet which apparently you are supposed to do, I didn’t know because UC’s don’t require them until after Spring and I want to go to a UC CSU are my backup.

@Transfercal - Don’t you just need the degree or?

What exactly is the verification form? Verification that you have the Degree? Or what?

The verification “form” is for CSUs. When you petition to graduate from your CC, your school will evaluate your AS-T or AA-T degree progress. Your CC should give you a form or letter that states your graduation status and transfer degree status. That document will serve as verification to the CSUs you’ve applied to that you will be earning your degree when you graduate in the spring. Make copies of that and send it to each of the CSUs you’ve applied to. CSUF wants verification by April 1st. I am not sure if UC’s need the verification.

UC’s don’t care about AA’s period…how about SDSU and SFSU?

You may have met the minimum requirements for your AA-T, but you have not met the minimum transfer requirements for SDSU or SFSU. Both require completion of the “Golden Four”, even with an AS-T or AA-T. So yes, you will directed toward the lower tier CSUs.

As far as verification goes, SDSU required AA-T/AS-T verification from your cc by February 1st.

@Knhofto - Do you have a link to somewhere that says the Golden Four are still required with the Aa-t/As-t??

And I didn’t apply to any lower tier CSU’s so how would I be directed there? Would they just send over my application to them automatically and say well your admitted here congrats! Lol

The AA-T removes and and all Transfer requirements to the CSU system, it’s possessor is guaranteed admission at at least one CSU campus.

That being said all other campuses that I was not guaranteed my admission at can cling to the golden four and deny admission for that reason.

Your CC may not certify full IGETC without the speech course if you transfer to a CSU. This can mean not being able to get the AA-T degree.

Note that the IGETC certification applications ask for the CSU or UC school you are transferring to.

Ucbalumnus - I have already spoken numerous times to the articulation officer at my CCC and the registrar at my college they have both as of our last meeting assured me that I will be getting IGETC certified and getting the AA-T in Sociology.

Here are the links for SDSU:

<a href=“Transfer Students | SDSU”>Transfer Students | SDSU;

http://www.calstate.edu/SAS/Conferences/2012/documents/SanDiegoCommunityCollege.pdf</a></p>

<a href=“Transfer Students | SDSU”>Transfer Students | SDSU;

The “Golden Four” are part of the minimum transfer requirements to SDSU. Those who meet the min transfer requirements AND have an AA/AS-T will receive priority admission. You are guaranteed into a CSU, so they will admit you to another school, even if you did not apply for it.

How will I be notified of admission to a school I didn’t apply to?

And if they are going to admit me to a CSU I didn’t even apply to how are they going to admit me without seeing transcripts as CSU’s require them I think.

So I won’t be able to send transcripts somewhere that I didn’t apply, does that make sense? Lol

I’m just kind of confused as to the being admitted to somewhere I didn’t apply part sorry, do you guys have any links that say you’ll be admitted somewhere you did not apply to and how that process takes place if the CSU’s you did apply to don’t want to accept you?

Thanks

What if I can’t attend the CSU that I am admitted to (for distance or other reason)?

We encourage students to apply to more than one CSU campus offering their major. However, if a student is not admitted to the CSU of their choice, their application may be redirected to one or more alternative CSU campuses that offer the similar program and have admission capacity. It will be up to the student to evaluate each admission opportunity to determine which option is best for them.

I am not sure about the process. You will probably get a letter of denial from the universities you did apply to and then a letter of acceptance from the university your application was re-routed to. CSU’s don’t require transcripts until after you have been admitted.

Okay it’s just a very confusing process I guess.

Uhm all the CSU’s I’ve applied to say on their sites that transcripts must be submitted in February.

A CC adviser mentioned the same info knhofto said. I’ve been told a redirect is rare at my CC, of all the AA-T transfers, only one was redirected. It was still a similar program but to a campus up north. Just keep up to date with the deadlines & good luck with everything!
