transfering to ucla in one year

the great question for me about transferring in one year is that how will the uc's know that i will finish both igetc and tap? i mean i'm fresh out of high school and going to apply like next week and i have nothing, no grades or job. only classes (honors freshmen composition, honors world history to 1500, latin american history, french 101). my first semestre schedule meets the major requirements for ucla history major (according to the articulation agreement between MY school and ucla), but i'd like to tranfer under art history major (i have completed two of the requirements, but the other two is not offered at my school). and since both art history and history is un-impacted and both are EXTREMELY similar (art history is much more closer to history than to art), my major choice will have little difference compared to my choosing of history major, right?? is it alright with all this "expected" stuff. i know for a fact that i will complete all these "expected." i can even guarantee the school through my relatively decent high school career. one off-the-topic question: ur sat score stays with u the whole life, right? i mean, some employers ask for ur sat scores. is 1880 a good score considering that i was in the first class to take new sat?

you have 2 years to complete the IGETC. Some students complete it by the fall of their 2nd year, while others take their time and finish it in the spring of their last year. The UCs will know because of the progress report (Fall transcript) of your 1st semester of your 2nd year. The UCs therefore, will know what courses your going to be taking for the spring and they will take into consideration that your IGETC is in progress of completion. Also, you could mention it on your application. I dont know why your worried about your HS stuff, UCLA doesnt consider SAT score or HS gpa for transfer admissions, since you are required to stay @ your CC or university until u complete 60 units.

just how important is completing the IGETC?

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED............... you really need to finish the IGETC because after you do, you will neverrrrrrr have to take another GE class after you transfer for UCLA.

they WILL know that you will not finish your IGETC because you have to list your planned schedule. plus, will you have 60semester/90quarter units BY the end of SPRING07?

My friend finished IGETC and TAP in 1 year and he transferred to UCLA fine. So finishing in 1 year is doable. He was a psych major i believe.

can courses that satisfy an igetc requirement also satisfy a major requirement? also what is the ideal amount of unit completion before transfer for art history major, an un-impacted major ? also, i heard somewhere that to compete tap u need to take 6 honors courses. i thought it was 5?

varies from school to school

wow, ur responses are pretty concise. let me see, from ur style of writing i'd guess u to be a science or math major, right? anyway, i wish i can get this transferring business done with and just reline in a fauteuil listening to bocelli convincing myself in the delusion that my troubles are over when actually is is just starting with the whole graduating in time and grad school.

tell me about it

ah, thank guys. so IGETC is a must.

what about Major Pre-requisites? how important is completing the pre-reqs? which is also more important, pre-reqs or IGETC. (major - bio (pre-dental)

For most campuses, major pre-reqs are more important than igetc completion. However, I highly suggest completing them both.
