hey:
so i need some advice. i'm a freshmen at nyu in gallatin. going to nyu was a big decision for my family (my sister has a full ride at our state school), and my family has made significant sacrifices to help pay for my schooling. Both my parents are divorced and both rent out rooms in their house, my mom has a second job waitressing on the weekends. i also have two jobs here. as much as i like nyu, i'm not sure if it's worth being here. i have plenty of friends, classes are okay, but i'm not in love with the school. i'm questioning my decision to go to school in the city; i miss the feeling of a community and nature. a large part of me feels like i've jumped from highschool to living on my own in my 20s. i knew coming in that nyu obviously doesn't have a campus, however i assumed that there would be more of a community.
i'm

What state do you live in?

you shouldn't have gone to nyu. it's not worth the amount of money that your family is sacrificing for you to attend. and it's not like you're going to stern, so maybe you should just consider going to your state school.

Its definetly not worth it. I had the same type of choice and I made the opposite of yours and its working out okay. My advice is transfer out to your state school and find a school you love for graduate studies and roll with that. Good luck

"and it's not like you're going to stern"

Add Tisch to that...other than those two, I think your best state school can offer just as good as an education as NYU and for half the cost. Consider transferring to College Park if you want to relieve the financial burden and get a pretty comparable degree.

i live in maryland, but the thought of going to another huge school is overwhelming. i'm thinking of going to community college next semester, then transferring to a school that would offer better financial aid. i don't know if that would hurt my chances of getting into a school.

just keep in mind that financial aid is generally harder to get as a transfer - most schools don't have very much money set aside for transfers.

You'd be more likely to get aid/admission if you went straight from NYU to a 4 year than if you downgraded to a cc.

^^^and you'd have a better shot at transferring into a good school from NYU than from a CC...besides the fact that it's a good school, colleges generally are concerned if a student wants to transfer for a second time, but it has not been a successive transfer to a better school each time. NYU > CC > Maryland would require quite an explanation.

NYU is defenitly not worth the 50k every year if all those sacrifices have to be made. Why don't you just transfer to UM-CP, it's even ranked almost as high as NYU.

you're not going to get much scholarship money anywhere. trust me.
just go to your state school.

well when i was applying to schools the first time i got mostly 1/2 rides, but i guess it's harder to get scholarship money as a transfer.
