transferrin'

this fall, i'm gonna be a freshmen at texas a&m university. i wanted to know after how many years or semesters i can transfer to michigan. i know that michigan generally wants people to apply after 2 years, but i was wondering if i could do it after 1 year or maybe even after 1 semester.

I decided to transfer from Georgia Tech to UoM during my first semester freshman year. I turned in my application in November and was accepted in April. While it might be harder to get in this way, it’s still possible.

You would definitely not be able to do it after one semester. The point of coming in as a transfer student is to prove to the admissions committee that you can handle the challenges of higher education. If you wanted to transfer after one semester they wouldn’t have any grades for you before they accepted you. Assuming they didn’t accept you out of high school, why would they before you can prove you do well at university?

You could possibly transfer after two semesters, but again they would be basing their decision on only one semester’s worth of grades (I think they begin evaluating applications in early spring, before spring/winter semesters end.

What are you hoping to study? For some programs (like engineering), you need to have met all or nearly all of their prerequisites, which are two years of math/physics/chem courses. It also depends on which school you are coming from. If you’re coming from GA Tech (like the above poster), it would be easier than coming from CMU or another small uni in MI.

123abc456, did you apply to U of M while you were a senior? (I can’t remember even though I’ve posted in some of your threads before)

U of M doesn’t like accepting transfers after one semester because of the reasons chasely stated, but if you were “stellar” in high school, it’s possible to transfer after a year.
