So if I was waitlisted this year, what are the odds of me being accepted as a transfer student next year (making the presumptuous assumption that i'll have a competitive GPA and all)? Basically will UVA count it against me next year that they didn't want me this year? Also, I could be completely off-base with this, but i have a feeling my HS suspension played a big role in my rejection(waitlist, rather). Do you think they will view my suspension any differently after a year off college?

P.s Will it help to retake the SAT's (once again, assuming i improve them) if i was waitlisted?
Thanks, Leah

Along the same lines: How hard is it to overcome a rejection from UVA for transferring? and is it possible to transfer for the spring semester (freshman year), or is there almost no way of doing so? (i've heard any transfer applicant must have a full year's amount of college credits to transfer to UVA.)

I don't think it makes a huge difference at all. As long as you do well at whatever other university you go to, you'll have a very good shot at getting in.

I have read on the UVA site that one must complete 24 credit hours before being able to enroll into UVA as a transfer. I also understand that the deadline for spring admission is November 1, 2006. Basically: does that mean if I'm a freshman applying (as a transfer) for the spring semester, I wouldn't be sending them any grades from college? (Thus, they would have no college grades to base their decision off of)

I guess another way of wording my question is:
If I were to take enough AP tests to give me 12 credits, and then take at least 12 credits in college (for the 24), during my freshman year at a place like V.Tech, would I be able to spend the second semester of my freshman year at UVA (pending admission)? Or do they have to have some college grades to go off of. Anyone have any experience with transferring?

No, I don't think UVA (or any school) accepts first year transfers for the spring semester. Regardless, spring transfer admission at UVA is many times more difficult than fall transfer admission. The standard courseload is 15 credits/semester, so you will have well over the required 24 by the time you apply for fall admission. If your GPA is sufficiently high, you will have a good chance of getting in.

Some schools accept spring transfers after only one semester of college- William and Mary for instance. However, most don't. They usually only offer fall transfers, and a few like UVA offer sophomores to transfer after 3 semesters to the spring semester, but it's really competitive then. Like a 3.9 is a longshot competitive.
