Rejected from UVA, Tranferring question.

So I just got rejected from UVA and I am disappointed. I know for a fact I will apply for spring transfer, but is it possible to transfer as a freshman to the spring semester? Initially in high school, I was a B+ student, but I have been a straight A student since junior year and I feel like UVA did not even bother looking at my mid-year reports considering they were all As and A+'s in the most rigorous course load possible. (5 AP's and 3 dual enrollment) My ACT score was a 33 and I am in state as well. Can I apply for transfer for the Spring 2014 semester, or will that be too early? If credits is a problem, I don't mind taking summer classes and I already have 60+ credits at Virginia Tech through dual enrollment classes and AP exams. Thanks in advance and congrats to everyone who got accepted!!

You can apply, however you won’t even have any new grades by that point in your college career so the outcome won’t be likely to change. You should focus on going to the best fit school for you that you are accepted to, and only think about transferring if it truly is a poor fit, otherwise you could be missing out on a great education at another school.

UVA doesn’t accept second semester freshman transfer. You have to complete at least a year in college with 28 credits or more to apply as a transfer. I ran in to this problem when I had applied last semester. The admission office told me that I have to complete a year out of high school with a minimum of 28 credit before I would be consider for admissions. This was after I had paid for my app fee and sent in all my material.

transfer136 is right. Regardless of how many credits you take this summer and in the fall, you cannot transfer in as a second-semester freshman. Good luck next year, and remember to give wherever you end up a chance! UVA is wonderful, but it isn’t the only great school out there.

Is that listed on the website somewhere? I couldn’t find a link about it. I wonder if DeanJ will show up and help us out to verify that, but I’m sure she’s busy at this time of year/admissions.

Here is the wording:
Transfer applicants are students who have earned twenty-four or more semester hours (one full year) of college credit after graduating from high school. Students interested in spring admission must have 24 credit hours earned and completed prior to the October 1 application deadline. For this reason it is highly unlikely that a student in the first year of college would be permitted to apply as a spring transfer applicant.

Notice the wording-‘after graduating from high school’ and ‘earned twenty-four hours (one full year) of college credit’

Since you are in-state, I suggest checking into the community college route and applying for transfer with a strong GPA and minimum credits as outlined in the Guaranteed Admissions Agreement.

Somewhat older information, but:

Here are five things you should know:

1)Freshman students are not eligible. You may apply for Fall 2011, but not Spring.
2)We only review applications for the College of Arts and Sciences and Architectural History.
3)The deadline for all materials to be submitted is November 1
4)If you’ve applied before, you’ll need to fill out a new application.
5)The VCCS Guaranteed Admission Agreement is not applicable for spring.

Don’t, and I mean do not, go into your fall semester wanting to be somewhere else. It will depress you, make you feel alienating, and will be plain miserable. Go in with an open heart to another school and you will most likely fall in love with that school and be just fine. Make the best of the school and maybe re-evaluate at the end of the Fall semester. Nine times out of ten those folks stay where they are. You’ll thank this advice one day :)
