Transferring and Leave of Absence

Hello guys. I have a dilemna and need some help.

I’m a current sophomore at a Top 5 LAC. I’m currently in the process of applying to transfer out of my current school as a junior transfer. However, there is a problem. Due to some personal issues back at home relating to my mother’s health, I will have to take a leave of absence for Spring 2020, meaning I will only have three semesters completed. How do I go about the situation? While I’m applying to college, I won’t be officially enrolled in my school. My plan is to go back home and work while I apply to transfer. Ho will this look like in my application? Should I work or should I enroll at a community college and take classes while I’m applying to transfer?

I’m really confused.

This is not a problem at all. Most students only have three semesters of grades when they file those Junior transfer applications. What is different for you, is that your acceptances will not need to be contingent on second semester grades. They will be able to be final determinations.

You are taking a leave of absence because of your mother’s health problems. Don’t take classes other than a non-credit exercise or fun class at a community center. Save your energy for dealing with the issues at home. If you need a job or have time for a volunteer position, that would be OK too.

Wishing you and your mother all the best.
