Transferring: College said they will make their final decision based on spring semester transcript?

Alright so long story short, I graduated high school with a 1.7 GPA, never took SATS, went to my local community college and earned a 3.2 GPA for the last 3 semesters. However, I only earned 35 credits, so far. I applied to the University of Pittsburgh back in January with low hopes - I have a horrible educational background and I definitely thought I was going to be rejected right off the bat; but it was worth a shot. I received a letter in the mail today that stated that it has been requested that they receive one more thing from me to have my application reviewed again, and that is my spring semester transcript. Then they will decide the status of my application. So when I finish in May, I have to get that sent right away. My personal essay was pretty deep because I have a very, very personal reason as to why I desire to go to this college - I truly think that helped a lot.

MY QUESTION IS...

If they were going to reject me based on lack of credentials, would they have sent me a rejection letter instead of putting me on hold until they see my final grades? No one really knows the answer to this question, and I'm not sure if I should have high or low hopes...

Please help :(

It sounds to me that they are saying that they are neither accepting you or rejecting you at this point. They want to see your grades this semester before making a decision. So, yes, I think if they thought for sure that you would not be a good fit for them, they would have rejected you right off the bat. I think you can take some comfort that you are still in the running. Good luck!
