So in HS I took two courses at my local CC. One of the classes I took I stopped showing up because the school I thought I was going too didn’t accept the credits, so I thought it was pointless. I received an F on the CC transcript. The other class I took I received an A. If I send this transcript to IU will it hurt my GPA? Also will it be factored in if/when applying to graduate schools?
In this day and age it would not be a surprise if they do find out. There’s a central clearinghouse that many colleges use to order transcripts, verify enrollment, and so on. Take a look at http://www.studentclearinghouse.org/
My D took some duel credit classes in HS, IU only took two of them and gave her 6 credit hours but they did not count towards her IU GPA. The only thing that counted for her were the 2 ACP classes she took which were IU classes. So with the two transfers they took, the 2 ACP’s and the 1 AP score she already has 15 credit hours on her IU transcript but of those hours only her 2 ACP count towards her GPA so starting with a 3.65 based on those two.
There is a place on the IU website where you can check the credit transfers to see if they will take them. You would put in the CC you took the classes at, then the name of the class and it will show you what IU class it would map to. You could start there to check on if the classes would even transfer to IU.
Thanks for the responses! My micro class transfers over, but when I send my transcript both classes I took will be on it. Will IU care about the F I received in the other course? Or will I just simply not get the credit for it?
I don’t think they would care. I believe you just won’t get credit for the course. That said, I’m not 100% sure. I would read this: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/indiana-university-bloomington/
I would probably call admissions just to make sure. Like I said, I don’t think they would care, but it’s worth calling to confirm IMO.
Sorry, wrong link. Just look up the credit transfer service for IU
Also remember that anywhere you send transcripts (say grad school, law school, transferring out…) you will be required to send original transcripts from said Parts Unknown Community College. So technically, while your IU transcript will not show the undesirable grade, the PUCC transcript will.
