Transferring Financial Aid

Hello, all!

How does transferring work with financial aid? I know you have to submit the FAFSA, but does the chance of getting fin aid decrease when you are a transfer student?

Thanks.

Transfer or not, Federal financial aid will be the same. Merit-base scholarships from school likely to be less for transfer students.

Very often need based aid is less for transfer students as well. I’m talking school based grants. If you are entitled to the Pell, you will get that at your new school. And you can take the Direct Loan. Beyond that…no guarantees for transfers.

Thanks! So Pell grants will stay with me no matter what?

As long as your financial situation as reported on fafsa doesn’t change. There are also SAP and number of semesters limitations.

if youre transferring in this spring you need to cancel your spring aid from your current university so the aid can be applied to your new school
