I am a high school senior who is planning on going to a private university for 2 years on a scholarship and then transferring. I have heard that it would would be more difficult to transfer from a private school to ucla or other ucs rather than from public to public. Would it be impossible to transfer from a private school to a uc or just very difficult?
Post in this forum since you will have more knowledgable UC transfer posters whom could answer your questions:
Though it is very difficult, it is not impossible! I didn't attend a private, but I attended a Cal State, which is given the same priority as 4-year privates: we're given the least amount of consideration. Despite this, I was able to get into UCLA and USC. My stats are as follow:
English major (Impacted at UCLA)
College GPA: 3.9 & 3.8 (At the time of applying for UCLA and USC, respectively)
Extra Curricular:
- High School Journalism Treasurer
- High School Journalism Editor
- Key Club member (Participated in over 45 hours of community service)
- Unidos member (Participated in over 10 community service opportunities)
- Hospital Volunteer (Over 60 hours when applied to UCLA, and close to 100 hours when I applied to USC)
- Church Volunteer (Twice a week: Youth Member, Sunday School Teacher’s Assistant, Volunteer Janitor)
- Work 20 hours a week.
In all honesty, they look for well-rounded individuals in their pool of applicants. My grades and extra curricular activities were no more stellar than the average applicant, but I think what made me stand out was how despite being a humanities major, I proved to be able to do good in other fields that didn't relate to my field: biology, mathematics, etc. However, in all honesty, I'd recommend you attend a California CC, as they have priority in admissions. I wish you luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor (Sorry, I couldn't resist. Lol)!
