Hi, i am an international student attending the freshman year at Baruch College and Macaulay Honors Program. And i want to study business but i do know that Stern is very selective. So i just want to transfer to CAS for economics major. I have a HS GPA in my home country about 3.6, a TOEFL 102 and ACT28. Do i have a chance to get into NYU CAS?
Why not apply to Stern from Macaulay? But first you’ll need college grades - preferably straight A’s’- and good involvement (use Macaulay opportunities) plus a smart presence in the honors slinaes for recommendations.
Being in Macaulay+Baruch is likely better for finance academically. Socially I know it must be tough but Macaulay should offer a small community with social opportunities - use help.
Final question: if you got into Stern, would you be able to pay?
As far as i know that Stern is very selective so i want to apply for CAS which looks like a safer choice for me. Since i i may not stay in US after graduation, i need a more well-known school degree to break into my home country’s business area. And for me at the undergraduate level the school is much more important than the major. Of course the tuition at NYU is still affordable for my family.
OK, that makes sense.
You’ll have to justify why you want to transfer, and “NYU is more prestigious” won’t cut it, so make SURE you have straight A’s this semester and get involved through Macaulay.
Thank you! Do i need to retake the ACT?
If applying in the Spring of freshman year, yes you can. No guarantee it’ll be used though.
