I have 36 semester units from ap credits and I’m working on finishing major requirements by spring 2018. I’m applying as a math/stats major and I will be done with diff eqs and linear algebra next semester; since that’s the highest math offered I’d like to start at UC next year instead of having a year break from calculus. Problem is the tag schools require that I finish two English courses by fall 2017, but I’m finishing the first one right now since I just started college. I also don’t have any ap English credits either so this was my only option. When submitting tag, it says by submitting I agree to the “terms” which include the English requirement be finished by fall 2017. If i submit the application would admissions see this as me trying to “lie” and therefore rejected or flag my application or would they see that I was trying to be an exception since I just started college. Any help is greatly appreciated
After you submit your TAG application and your UC Application, you will be required to update with your fall grades for your classes currently in progress. If you state on the TAG that you will have the English requirement completed by Fall 2017 and do not have grades for this requirement, your TAG will be rejected. A requirement is a REQUIREMENT so I am not sure why you think you should exempted???
From the UC Website::::::::
After applying, transfer students are required to update their grades and course records.
You must provide your final grades from the previous term and list all courses in progress or planned for the term before you expect to enroll. Your updates will ensure UC campuses have the most current academic information available.
Though a requirement is a REQUIREMENT, there are rare exceptions granted for circumstances. For example for freshman applications I know minimum requirement is 3.0 GPA but there are people who get jnto UCs for under 3.0 gpas too. Yes its hard and yes it’s rare but there are few people who even get into Berkeley not meeting that requirement because of some circumstance. My circumstance is I just started college which is why I couldn’t finish two English courses. I’d rather just give it a shot since it’s free to fill out but I don’t want to be rejected from the school that I probably could get in without TAG. Or even worse I’d rather not lose my shot at LA and berkeley because of a rejected tag application.
I really do not see how your circumstance is different than any other Freshman college student that wants to transfer to a UC. Most UC transfers expect to spend at least 2 years at their community college to meet the GE and major course requirements to transfer. Just because you have 39 units of AP credit will not exempt you from meeting these requirements.
Getting rejected for TAG will not mean you cannot apply as a regular transfer. UCLA/UCB do not accept TAG so you would be apply as a regular transfer anyways.
