Transferring From Uchicago

I am currently a second year at the College and I am thinking about trying to transfer to a highly selective small liberal arts college, Swarthmore. I was rejected ED 2 years ago and I was pretty sad about it. That being said I was accepted to several mid tier Ivy and UChicago, which I choose solely because I received a decent academic scholarship. I havent been enjoying my experience in the college very much. Does anyone have a clue about how easy it would be to transfer with a 3.5 gpa? If it helps I went to a very highly ranked high school and graduated in the top 5% and received a 2310 on SAT. Thanks for any and all help.

Also 4 SAT II’s over 770

LMAO at the phrase “mid tier Ivy”. ;)

OK, down to business. In general, after 2 years of college admissions is not going to look at your SATs. Most also don’t look at HS transcripts, but Swat does so that can work in your favor.

Still, your primary academic calling card is now your college transcript and GPA. If you’ve been taking a reasonably rigorous program at UChicago, then a 3.5 GPA is quite good. Admissions folks are likely to be savvy enough to know that a 3.5 there is equivalent to a 3.8 at many other schools.

You certainly have a solid chance, but at Swat or any highly selective school, transfer admissions are highly competitive. Often more so than freshman admissions. Have some backup options, just in case.

bprunkle, really, you’re asking the wrong people. pick up the phone and call swarthmore and ask them these questions. give them a chance to get to know you. good luck.
