Transferring from UIUC

I'm a freshman at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and I want to transfer. I'm here because my first choice was Northwestern, but I didn't get in. My high school records weren't terrible (3.3 UW, 4.3 W, 33 ACT, AP Calc, AP Lit, AP Psych, AP US, volunteering at the library, summer job), but clearly not Northwestern caliber. I was wondering if, after my first year here (where I can realistically have a 4.0 GPA, along with: staff writer at the Illini Independent, Mentor and member of the Fundraising Committee at the Illini Mentor Program, volunteer at Austin's Place Women's Shelter, member of 1867 Society (leadership and student philanthropy), member of Illinois Model UN), I will be able to get in to a school I dislike less; these schools, in order, would be Boston College, Northwestern, UMich, Georgetown, or some other East coast schools.

Beyond that, are there any tips for me beyond maintaining a good GPA, etc.? This process is daunting.

Stats, for those who don't want to read that first paragraph:
HS GPA: 3.3 UW, 4.3 W
ACT: 33
APs: US History 4 (junior year), Psychology 4, Literature 4, Calc AB 5, Calc BC 3 (all senior year)
ECs: French Club, High Schools Against Cancer, writing editorials at the school newspaper
Volunteer: Teaching elementary-aged kids reading (summer between sophomore and junior years) and teaching elementary-aged kids math (summer between junior and senior year), both at the library. Peer tutoring at school.
Jobs: Bussing at a restaurant, within two weeks trained a newer employee, promoted to runner
Other: Illinois State Scholar, Nationally-Certified Peer Tutor, Career Readiness test, AP Scholar With Honors

College GPA: Quite possibly a 4.0
First semester classes: Econ, Linguistics, Physics, Political Science, "College 101"
Because of credits earned this semester and AP credits, I'll be registering for classes next semester as a sophomore. I don't know if that affects anything.
ECs: Staff Writer at the Illini Independent, Mentor and Fundraising Committee member at the Illini Mentor Program (service learning project, about 3 volunteer hours a week. Mentoring an elementary schooler at a struggling Urbana elementary school), Austin's Place Women's Shelter (a place for homeless women to stay during the coldest months of the year), 1867 Society member, Model UN member, Illini Pride member
Jobs: Summer before college started: Admin at a large real estate office, dealing with home buyers and sellers, and performing marketing tasks for Realtors such as producing flyers, posters, emails, mailing lists, etc. Lots of answering phones

I really would like to get out of this school. Do you, benevolent College Confidential posters, think I can?

shameless bump

Is this meant as a chance thread, or are you looking for help with finding a school that you will like more?

I am positive you can get out and into another school! But the challenge is getting into another school that suits you really well and makes you happier than you are at your current school. In that regard, while having your stats is really important (and great you provided them!), posters can probably be more helpful if they understand what you are looking for in transferring.

So you have mentioned east coast schools, and some you like, so that is a start. But can you say what it is that you like about the schools you’ve listed? Or what common features are shared by your favorite schools that will bring you more contentment. Or if you can’t get into one of these, what features you hope to find in your transfer school?

So midwest or east coast that is private and at least 8,000 students? Or? Offers majors in? Has the culture of? Does cost or financial aid matter?

Probably more of a chance thread, although I don’t entirely know what I was going for when I made it.

I’m officially undeclared, but I think I want to major in Econ. I liked BC a lot in the time I spent there; I liked the campus, community, location, food, almost everything. I would like to be on the East coast, and I want a school that is a little more well-rounded than this one (if you’re not in engineering, UIUC isn’t a great school). I think I’m really really smart, and I think that I should be at a “smarter” school than this one
