I am a current freshman Biology major at St. John's U, and I am currently trying to transfer to Rutgers U for the fall 2014 semester. So far I have completed just one semester at STJ (16 credits) and my GPA was way less than I had hoped (being a 2.7). I received 2 B's in my major courses, an A in an elective, but 1 C in a core class, and another C in another elective. My high school grades are literally identical to my current grades (2.89 exactly), and I received above a 1600 on my SAT's. I know that by the end of my second semester I can have my GPA pulled up to at least a 3.5, but the last I checked Rutgers will only accept the grades for the semester(s) previous to the one you are in while applying on the applications. So my first question is; is there any way I can incorporate my spring semester grades into my consideration for fall 2014.

Secondly, I have also considered waiting until my third college semester to apply, in order to give my self a few more considerable credits and grades. However my parents think this is an unwise move because apparently "no one transfers in the middle of their sophomore year." and they would rather me attend our state university (UMD), however for the path that I am trying to pursue (pre-med) I feel that Rutgers is the better school (and after living in New York for a year and loving it I'd like to stay as close to the city as possible). I've done the research and I have compared both schools and their med school pre-req courses and opportunities and I strongly feel that Rutgers is the place for me. So my second question would be; Which of the 2 options give me the more likely upper hand for acceptance, and which is the wiser path?

Thanks so much in advance for all that read this and reply, my parents want me to have my apps done by the end of the week so I'm really stressing on the right moves. ANY AND ALL ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!! :)
