Hello,

I recently finished my first year of college at an unimportant school in upstate new york (not suny) and was planning on transferring into stern in the fall but some last minute personal issue caused me to need to stay at my current school and actually commute as well. The upside is I'll be going for free.

From what I've heard (from the application itself as well) penn prefers students to transfer in as sophomores rather than juniors.

I am curious if anyone has successfully transferred into wharton (or any other school at penn for that matter) as a junior? If so were you clearly over qualified or did soft skills (essays ect) play a big role?

I had a rather unimpressive high school career and sat score but I've gotten my act together ever since I started attending college. Will a solid 2 years of college 3.8-3.9 including relevant extra curriculars and strong essays outweigh a 1960 sat and top 15-20% of high school class?

So I can safely assume Trump was the only student to transfer in as a junior to wharton?

After 2 years in college I don’t think the SATs and high school resume are much a factor anymore. It is still unlikely to happen, since the gpa standard to internally transfer for current Penn students is around a 3.8(i.e. around your gpa) and they prefer to fill openings with internal transfers. However, it’s unlikely for anyone. This isn’t a personal judgment against you.

This is true I could be rejected coming from Harvard with a 4.0 and I know that posting here and asking for opinions will not change anything but sometimes you still wanna do it.

I know for a fact that internal transfer is purely about the numbers. Most of the transfers I know had pretty high stats too. The only external transfer to wharton I know of from my year is columbia but I know a fair number of external transfers to the other schools. There’s a pretty long list of people who are trying to transfer internally already so you are fighting an uphill battle. All the same, best of luck, I do believe uni gpa matters more than hs stats at this point.
