Transferring Schools Mid-Semester Junior Yr

Hey everyone,

I’m attending an IB school in the US (only offers the full IB diploma), and due to financial and health problems, I will be transferring to a local public school mid-semester. The public school only offers AP courses, and I would assume I wouldn’t be able to join in any AP classes (although I would like to) because of the time of my transfer. I’m aiming to be a well-respected applicant for a decent university. I don’t want to screw myself over by not taking any AP classes, as junior year is known to be the most important. Advice, please?

Also, the public school does quarter grades, so I believe I would be getting an incomplete mark for the first quarter. Prior to that, I finished the MYP program with all A/7’s.

Definitely talk to your current guidance counselor and/or future guidance counselor as soon as possible about this.

Maybe it is possible to take the prerequisites of AP classes can’t take because of lacking prerequisites online (although that is costly… probably won’t help your financial situation).

Is it possible to take the AP classes you plan on taking next semester right now? By this I mean contact the public school and ask them if you can still get credit for taking this outside school? This will probably be time-consuming and most likely won’t work.

If all else fails, universities most likely won’t criticize you for something you can’t possibly control.
