Transferring successfully

What do you think are my chances of successfully transferring to one of these colleges, after my freshman year? I'm currently at George Washington U in DC. I'm basically trying to find a good school for pre-med as well as English major.

Transferring is always tough, especially into the school's you want. UNC seems like your best bet, but your exceptional test scores are attractive. My biggest worry would be the fact that you don't have an outstanding EC on your resume. I'd say your chances for Duke and UVA hover around 40-45%, WashU is maybe 40%, UPenn 35-40%, and UNC 50-55%.

Good luck!

Your ECs are strong as are your AP test scores. What are your ACT or SAT I scores (section-by-section), why do you want to transfer, & did you apply to any of these targeted schools last year? And, if so, what was the result? As a North Carolina resident, UNC is your best bet.

You did not take the SATs or ACTs in highschool?

Johns Hopkins has a terrific premed program and a top 10 english department as well as the #1 creative writing program in America. Consider transferring there :D

Thanks for your post. And I did take the SAT haha, I just forgot about it.

Critical Reading 660
Math 660
Writing 750

And I didn't apply to any of the schools listed above with the exception of UNC, and I got in. Just to give some extra information, the other schools that I got into were UNC, Elon University, UNC at Greensboro (safety), and University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The reason that I want to transfer is that before I applied, I really had no clue where to apply. Ironically, now that I'm at GWU, I've sort of developed what I want to do, and feel that GWU is not the best of places.

Thanks for all the replies.

PS - I know that my SAT scores are rather weak (2070) - is it possible to retake them as a college student?

Your GPA will be by far the most important factor in transfer admittance. Keep it up there near 4.0 and I am pretty sure you will be accepted at several of those schools.

How much of a chance do you think I would have at any of the Ivy schools or Johns Hopkins, assuming that I do get a 4.0 or a very close to 4.0 first semester freshman year?

Possible for Cornell, Penn or JHU depending upon your coursework & grades at GWU. Not likely, but possible.
