I'm hoping someone can give me some general advice on transferring to FSU with a lower GPA... I'm graduating with my A.A. in Spring 2012 and hoping to transfer to FSU in Fall 2012. I called admissions today and they said they do not do any grade forgiving, so every course you have taken and every attempt is calculated in your transfer GPA. This means my GPA will be much lower than my GPA at my community college because they have replaced some bad grades in my GPA after I retook the course and made A's. Based on my calculations, I will have a 2.82 after I graduate in Spring. The lady I talked to in admissions today told me the GPA requirement for someone with an A.A. is 2.0 to transfer, but I doubt FSU takes everyone with an A.A. and 2.0 GPA. If the program I am transferring to is not limited access and I have met all the prerequisite requirements, is it remotely possible to get in with a 2.8 GPA? Has anyone heard of anyone transferring to FSU after getting their A.A. and having less than a 3.0? I would really appreciate any input! :-)

Students who offer some sort of talent (e.g. sports, music) can be admitted with less than a 3.0 GPA. For everyone else…it is less likely:

Yeah, I saw that on their website, and asked about it when I called. She said she is not allowed to say how “likely” it is that I would get in, all she could say is if you have an A.A. the minimum GPA is 2.0 rather than 3.0. I know it would be better if my GPA was at least a 3.0 and I’m considering sticking around at my community college a little longer to get my cumulative GPA up, but I was hoping someone else who transferred with an A.A. or knows someone who did may have had lower than a 3.0. =/

If the program your trying to get in is not limited access you should be fine. If its limited access you have no chance at all.

When I registered for the Fall of this year at FSU my GPA was right at 3.0. When they accepted me it was around 2.92 or something like that with an A.A, but I came from a University, if that means anything. Plus, my major was a limited access major also. I would just say don’t worry about now and just do good in the classes that you are taking now to bring up your GPA.

Remember, the minimum GPA may not be the same for the university and the major itself. The university might take an AA with a 2.x GPA, but the major may not. You must be admitted into both.

I apologize for this being belated, but thank you for all the replies! You all have made me feel much more confident. I looked into it, and for the specific major I’m seeking, you need a 2.0 or higher to transfer in. So, I’m feeling optimistic about it now. I believe both the university and my department will accept me. Thank you guys again for your insight!

Are you counting your GPA with your replaced grades (but not the original grades) or are you counting your GPA including the original grades?

I believe FSU considers every grade received, not just the replacement grades. I could be wrong on that.

Hi, I was wondering I know it’s a couple years past. But if u got accepted into fsu? I am hoping to get in next fall semester and right now I’m in hopes of getting my gpa up higher right now it’s a 2.24 due to some classes I didn’t do great in & ive transferred to other community colleges! And I’m just hoping that there is still hope of me being able to be accepted into the school!
