transferring to GWU from American

Hey everyone I’m currently a freshman at American University planning on transferring to GW.

I’m currently taking 13 credits (withdrew from a math class) I am working very hard currently to get at least a 3.7 GPA, which I think I am on track to accomplish.

I do not plan on submitting test scores

I have multiple internship experiences. One for a London based PR firm and the other for a real estate firm (Keller Williams)

I am a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity

I had a 3.72 GPA in high school and took IB (I passed)

I am currently a business major and am planning on transferring into GW’s business school.

The topics I wrote about in the common app writing supplement for GW’s fall 2017 application were my interest in the urban campus and it’s associated amenities. Secondly, my appreciation of the GW business schools emphasis on global thinking. Lastly, I wrote about my appreciation for GW’s politically active student body and their acceptance of LGBTQ+ students.

Please tell me your thoughts and your suggestions as to what I can do to make my application stand out!

Thanks!!!

Why do you want to transfer? You seem to be doing well at AU and they are providing you with internship opportunities this early in the year. AU and GWU are not that much different. So why?

I know I replied to your question in the other thread, but I’ll say more in here since your post here gives more information. If your driving factors for transferring are the business school and the LGBT community, then you definitely want to stress them in your application. It’s not unheard of for a student to go to one school, nail-down a degree of study, and realize that there are better schools nearby for that. Further, I can imagine that going to a school that’s friendly and accepting to the LGBT lifestyle is an important consideration for many.

In the end, if it’s what you want, go for it. It’s still early in the semester to know what your GPA will be, but don’t let your guard down and keep plugging away. I’m sure that with only a semester under your belt when you apply will place greater emphasis on your GPA.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

@NHuffer Thank you for the responses, I really appreciate it!!!
