Transferring to southwestern schools.

How difficult is it to get into UNLV, University of New Mexico, and Portland State, UT Arlington respectively?
My major is mechanical engineering.

would a gpa in the 2.8~3.1 range get me into any of em?

you could get accepted into Baylor, and ya u will get into all those schools on ur list

Isn’t tuition at baylor huge? do they offer lots of financial aid? cause lord knows i’ll need it.

baylor give decent Financial aid, but if your applying as an out of state student to any of those colleges the tuition will be similar. baylor also has scholarships for transfer students that are automatic if you have a certain gpa

UT arlington’s oos tution is 18,000 a year to baylor’s 32,000. I checked online and apparently even though I’d qualify for a lot of financial aid, I’d still have to pay 24k a year in cost of living/attendance to go to baylor. Is it hard to become a resident of texas?

If your parents work at a school that does tuition exchange, I believe Baylor honors that. You will want to call the financial aid office though.

Ok neither of my parents work at a school, but you guys have kinda got me interested in Baylor. I know that it’s a private christian school, and I am no christian or religious in any sense of the word. So what i’m getting at is though I wouldn’t mind having to take a theology class or 2 to get a degree, It would be kind of off putting to have to go to church or something like that for school. Is that at all involved in christian schools? or is it just like any other school?

It is a requirement for some Christian schools, many if looking at specifically Southern Baptist schools like Baylor.
Be aware that Baylor has a strict honor code and you can easily be kicked out or lose scholarships for breaking it. I know girls who have been kicked out for getting pregnant and LGBT people who were denied their degrees or lost scholarships due to being active in the LGBT community in Waco.
With that said, they can be generous with financial aid, and Waco is cheap to live in. You will need a car for the most part so you need to factor that into your costs. There is practically no public transit and Walmart/Target/Bookstores are all up the high way or across town.

Eh I’m really not interested in all that hassle to be honest. Is that much of a better school than the ones I’ve listed? Because if it is I might just think about it. Anyhow, is it pricey to live in Arlington?

University of New Mexico is considered a good school here in Texas, and UT Arlington is respectable. I think Baylor has stronger academics than UT-A in many areas, but I don’t know about engineering.
Are you OOS? Because out of state tuition at a UT school might be comparble to a private school in Texas.
