Transferring to university from community college after a semester?

I’m currently attending a community college part-time, though I was supposed to go full-time but I really couldn’t without my schedule being really messy since I applied fairly close to the deadline of registering for classes. I went to register for classes almost immediately after taking my GED in which I received a cumulative score of 647. I pretty much rushed into this at the last moment. I planned on transferring either way, but I’d like to do it earlier now. I want to transfer to Illinois State University. I checked the admissions requirements for transfer students and I pretty much meet them all. I scored high enough on the GED and I have my ACT scores as well. I’m just taking some pre-reqs at CC currently, but I’d assume they wouldn’t look at those if I did apply at this very moment. I’d like to apply for the summer semester, would it be a good idea to apply now or wait until I get the 9 credits I’m working towards right now? I’d assume that applying now might increase my chances of acceptance for applying fairly early.

You should contact the admissions office and ask about this. They may not even be accepting applications for next summer yet.

They are. Deadline is May 1, preferred filling period for summer and fall is Sep 1 to January 15.

You can apply now, but any acceptance will be provisional until they have received your final transcripts before enrollment. So you will need to get decent grades both this semester (and next if you are enrolled next semester) or your acceptance can be rescinded.

Is there a Transfer Advisor at your CC? Talk with them. They should know all the ins and outs of transferring in state, and should be able to help you with this application process.

Our D took courses at CC (after starting as soon as she passed the GED in July), and applied after 1 semester to transfer to a private U. She was accepted for admission for Jan (spring) the following year. It worked out well for her and most of her 3 semesters of CC transferred and applied toward her U.
