I'm planning on applying as a junior to UIUC. I looked through the requirements, and though I want to transfer as a Physics major, I won't be done with the physics series until summer. I should be done with the main Mathematics requirements by next quarter though, so should I just transfer as a Math major?

Regarding math, it says that I need to take CS 101: Intro to Computing: Engr & Science
or CS 125: Intro to Computer Science. My current school doesn't have U.Select, so I have no idea what will transfer. Do you think an intro C++ class counts?

Also does anyone know if I have to have finished a 2nd English course for the general requirements? Because I'm planning on taking it this Spring. I'm afraid that might be too late though. If it is, should I just transfer in the winter?

And while I'm at it, do you think I have a good chance with a 3.5 GPA? I have pretty strong extracurricular if that matters any. And I should have over 100 units by the time I transfer.

I cannot tell you the equivalent CS course and, if your college is not covered in the on-line converters for UIUC, the only way to be sure is to contact UIUC (admisisons ) and ask.

As to transfering physics or math, you need to have required courses for transfer completed by time of actual transfer which means by August 2012 not by the time of application or the end of this quarter or semester. I don’t know what you mean by your completing physics sequence by “summer.” Does that mean June or August? If June you are just talking about completing the sophomore sequence by the end of your sophomore year and that is what they are expecting from a transfer into junior year.

When you refer to second English course I assume you mean the upper level rhetoric (writing) course that is required. That does not need to be completed at time of transfer. I assume you have seen the transfer handbook for math or physics; if not go here [U of I Admissions: Transfer Handbook](Page Not Found, Illinois Undergraduate Admissions) and clck on “All Other Programs” under “College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.”

Assuming you will have all required courses, a 3.5 if that includes high grades in math and science would give you a good chance for math or physics but nothing is certain and a lot depends on seats available and total transfer applicant pool at the time. Finally, I not sure what the “100 units” is referring to. It seems you are on a quarter system and I don’t know your college or how your system translates to a semester system but if that were a semester total there would be serious issues as to being able to transfer because you would already have senior status. If that 100 simply means completing what would be the equivalent of somewhere in 60s range of semester hours, you will not have an issue.
