USC Freshmen Transfer

I have a question about transferring to USC after freshmen year. I go to a private four year uni. in cali and i want to transfer to usc marshall. it says that if you complete 30 units than they don't really look at your high school record. does 30 units include both semesters of my freshmen year? also i will have fufilled the the marshall prereqs. by the end of my freshmen year. i got rejected as a freshmen but i want to reapply.

I'm pretty sure that they mean 30 units by the time you apply. If you apply with, say, 15 units, but plan on taking another 15 by the time you transfer, then they'll likely ask for your HS information as well.

Also, just a side-note suggestion: make sure that you look at usc.edu/articulation in order to make sure that the classes that you are taking will even transfer over.

yah my college isnt included in the articulation agreement..i do plan on going to both the transfer session and the transfer day to get more information. thanks for the advice!!!!..anyone else?

yeah, what grey_syntactics said is right about the units and looking at your hs record. im in the same boat as you.

which transfer day are you going to?

the november 14th one :D so a lot of emphasis is going to be put on our high school record then...so its probably preferred that we transfer after our soph year then right?

yeah, if your HS record isn't quite up to par with USC's expectations, I would wait until next year.

umm what you just said doesnt make any sense. So I will have more than 30 units after iam done this year, but what your saying is that they will only see my first semester units and therefore they have to look at high school. That is wrong

now i'm so confused..did anyone on this board transfer after one year to usc? lol

Uh, yeah that's what I'm saying. When do you think you apply? late June? You apply in late January or early February (the application this year is due on February 2nd). How many units will you have when you APPLY? on FEBRUARY 2ND? It doesn't matter that you will have 30 units in June - they won't see those grades when you initially apply unless they REQUEST them via a Spring Grade Request.

Otherwise what you're saying is that you can do horrible in HS, submit a semester's-worth of CC grades, and go to USC the following year? (that is granted that you don't get a spring grade request)

no thats not what I am saying but i know people who have transferred to usc, and usc counts the credits of your next courses. Also I just called them up and it is confirmed by USC admissions counselor that they will ask for your spring semester and everything.

Yes they'll ask for your Spring grades, but you will have fewer than 30 units when you apply. They're going to ask for your HS information.

If you don't believe me, here it is, straight from the USC website.

There is no minimum number of transfer units you must complete before applying for admission. However, if you have completed fewer than 30 units, we will focus primarily on your high school record and results from the SAT or ACT.

yea i never said they wont ask for high school transcript. I know they will, but i am saying that if i complete 30 units by end of the year then there will be less emphasis on hs.

geez

the keyword there is "complete." when you are applying to the school you will only have completed one semester at college, you will be in the midst of your second one

like it said, the greatest emphasis will be on your hs stats, they can't be expected to do much with one semester worth of grades

DUDE, NO. oh my god, haha. Read what I quoted from the USC website. Read it over and over and over and over... it'll click I promise. The keyword in the quote is "primarily". I'm not explaining this further, bye.
