Transferring to UW as soon as possible?

Back when letters were sent out, I was denied admission to this year's Freshman fall quarter at UW. My GPA was quite low in high school, and I was not surprised. With a 3.0, there wasn't much of a chance.

However, I am aiming to make up for that as soon as possible.

I am currently enrolled in two summer courses at Bellevue College, and am preparing to take 15 credits' worth this upcoming fall.

The courses I am taking now are CMST 132 - Techniques and Technologies of Propaganda, and PSYC 100 - General Psychology. I have an A in both, and plan to start out my 'college career' with a 4.0. I have 10 credits from AP classes, US Government & Politics and Language. On top of that, I have 35 credits from Tech Prep classes in high school.

What would be the best strategy to transfer over to the UW as soon as possible? Would applying for Winter quarter be advisable, or should I just wait until next Fall? What courses would be best to take over the next few quarters? Any other tips or suggestions would be great.

You can do what I did and transfer after 45 credits. Transfers from Washington community colleges with at least 40 credits have the best chance of getting accepted.

Just take the classes that fulfills the core prereqs and obviously get good grades and youll be fine.

It is definitely possible to transfer after 45 credits, but don’t despair if you are not accepted at that time. UW prefers WA State CC students to have completed 90 credits before transferring. If you can keep up the good work and maintain a very high GPA, your chances of admission after 90 credits are excellent.

As you want to transfer as soon as possible, you can apply once you have 45 credits. Any sooner would almost certainly be a waste of your effort. But again, your chances greatly improve at 90 credits.

Obviously, the only way to speed things up would be to take more than 15 credits every quarter, but I honestly believe that you are better off just taking 15 and getting the best possible grades.

As for what classes to take: Definitely start thinking about what you want to major in at the UW. If you can take classes at Bellevue that transfer in as prerequisites, take them. Since you’re planning on transferring in before getting your AA, it’s important to work on your general education requirements as well (English Composition, VLPA, NW, etc). You can check UW’s Transfer Equivalency Guide to find courses at Bellevue that transfer to UW as gen ed.
