Mine is still the same

@panther13

I’d say you’re gonna be accepted. I mean, there’s no way they’d call you and say all that if you weren’t getting in. Hope you get that packet soon man!

btw- I don’t wanna sound rude or anything, but is there anyway you could post a link to your vid? I just wanna see a film from someone who’s been accepted!

Thanks guys for the high hopes!

@corvin

Haha, I haven’t been accepted! …Knock on woooooodddd! If I do get in, I promise I’ll post a link to the vid. Or you can just pm me. :)

@panther13

What are you stats?

Bump–

Just wanted to keep this near the top so us SCA applicants can keep track of updates!

@kmgphoto

Well, I’m about 5’6 and 3/4, I weigh in at a whopping 120 pounds, and my shooting average is approximately 20.999 percent. :P

I feel a little foolish posting my actual stats, as they are nothing to brag about, but hey- about a 3.56 cumulative gpa at the time of application with one very bad semester (2.75), but an upwards trend. A lot of trail-blazing and extracurricular involvement. Plenty of work experience with good companies. Good test scores.

… That’s pretty much it lol. Looking for anything in particular? In any case, I was wondering if anyone has heard anything at all yet, as I am nowhere near a mailbox and just got (temporary) internet access via the Los Angeles Public Library. spazzing

@panther …lol…

I’ll go ahead and copy-paste the same question in this thread …

guys, do you think it would be wise emailing admissions asking for my application status… the thing is that I still have the “We are reviewing your application. Sometimes we require additional information, so be sure to respond to any requests promptly” but as I am an international student I am afraid that in case they did asked for something via traditional mail I would receive it until 2 or 3 months later.

the thing is that I am afraid that just because I send the email, they would ask me for my spring grades…

@moniso

I don’t think asking for your status will do you much good, but it might be wise to let them know that you’re worried about the time delay and just wanted to ask that if they need any additional information they request it via email. I was asked to submit additional info via an email that asked me to respond ASAP and I live in LA, so I think they are very time-conscious. Haha, I don’t think they’re going to say “We’ll, since you asked, let’s see those spring grades!”

@panther

thank you ! =) sending the email right now!

@panther

What I’m really interested to know is that if you don’t seem to have exceptional stats, how come you’re receiving so much personal contact?

Perhaps, just great essays and sca samples or a letter of rec from someone important?

Anyway, it doesn’t matter…I applied with a 3.65 with an upward trend (basically 3.8+ in all courses over the last year), good essays and a good portfolio, so I’m pretty confident, but I know that competition is tough so I’m constantly on my toes.

I really hope that I get in…good luck to everyone.

@kmgphoto- SCA pretty much pays literally no attention to GPA unless it’s borderline mediocre, like less than a 3.3 probably. I was told during an SCA online session run by someone who works for admissions at SCA (a couple months before I applied) that GPA is hardly a factor and that people have gotten denied with 4.0 and accepted with 3.2. She (along with pretty much everyone else I’ve ever talked to about the matter) have all said that it’s all about the portfolio, and that what they are looking for is truly creative people with strong storytelling skills. So panther13’s stats are not a significant sign of why she would be getting attention. And your 3.65 will not give you an edge over other people with strong portfolios with lesser GPAs. It all comes down to portfolio, so there really is no way to judge who will get in or who won’t.

@kmgphoto

Ha! Your guess is probably as good as mine. Assuming the contact is a good sign, I can only be giddy and hope that surely it is not undeserved.

@reelfilm

I gleaned as much from the SCA guy I spoke with, who referred to my bad semester as a stumble, when in actuality I kind of tripped and fell on my face. heh. Blame it on the artists in the cinema department, cause if I was in engineering… “get that mess outta here!” throws application in waste basket

I make the long trek to my P.O BOX on the other side of this wacky town on Friday. The wait is literally disgusting, but I wish everyone luck as well!

Oh, yeah, and I just want to add that this is my second time applying. The first time I applied with the 2.75 and got an SGR, so I agree with reelfilm that the standard criteria probably have very little to do with SCAs selection process.

@reelfilm

For the most part, I already knew that 99% of the review emphasis was placed on portfolio. However, maybe GPA would play a part if there were one spot left and two applicants whose portfolios they could not decide between.

As for portfolios, I feel pretty good about mine, what options did everyone choose?

Obviously, we all had write the SCA essay, but after that, I chose to do the photo option and for the writing sample I did the 3 page dialogue script adapted from a short story I wrote last summer.

I submitted a short video and the dialogue scene. I know they give us a lot of options, but I wonder if they have any preference…

Well, I chose the photo option because I didn’t have access to a video camera and secondly, because I’ve been doing photography for like 5 years and it’s obviously more of a strong suit for me at the moment. Also, the photo option requires a narrative so it allowed me to give them even more of a look into my creative writing abilities (which will hopefully be a good thing :D).

As for the writing sample, I’m not sure, but it seems to me like being able to write a good dialogue would be more impressive than just a pitch/idea for a movie. I don’t know really.

I did the feature length movie outline/summary. Anyone else do this for the writing sample?

No, I did the video and the dialogue

Hey, are any of you planning on studying abroad? Does anyone know if this is even feasible for cinematic arts students?

@panther

Hmm…unless you’re transferring in as a freshman or a sophomore, I don’t think you would be able to fit studying abroad into your schedule. I just can’t imagine that there are very many international schools that could offer you the same caliber of film production courses. I could be wrong though.
