How difficult is it to transfer into UMA as a sophomore? D has been accepted into the honors program (and invited to BioTap) but it isn’t her first choice (only because of the size of the school, ugg). But, if things dont’ work out at her first choice, how hard will it be to transfer into UMassA? I figure its our only option because merit aid is nearly impossible after freshman year from what I’m understanding.
Average transfer GPA is about a 3.3 so if she has above that in college then she should be fine especially if she’s instate. But UMA does give priority to Massachusetts community college transfers. I am a sophomore transfer myself waiting to hear back so I will let you know the results
NEPatsGirl - Getting accepted is the easy part for any good student, getting aid is another thing. UMass gives community college transfers who meet very strict requirements almost a free pass to get in, they do this because they are obligated to as a state Uni, and to fill open spaces as well. (This obviously doesn’t apply to your D) I would explain this likely lack of aid to her and clarify the debt she is getting into before she pulls the trigger on the other school. (Assuming she hasn’t already)
UMA doesn’t give any real merit aid to in-state (I think the max is normally $2000) so financials are a non-issue. If her stats remain the same, same above 3.6, how difficult is it to transfer in? I know nothing about transfers.
