Transportation from JFK to NYU

hey im coming to visit NYU next week and i was wondering if there was a way i could get there from JFK besides using a taxi? does anyone know specifically the locations of the subways, buses, etc? Thanks a lot!

Take the trains. Taxi is super expensive and not worth it unless you have lots of luggage.

From JFK, follow the signs to get to the Airtrain. Buy a $7 dollar Metrocard. You will swipe it once, using up $5, to get into the AirTrain station. Get on the Airtrain bound for Jamaica Station and ride it there. Follow the signs to transfer to the subway. You will swipe your Metrocard again, using up your last $2, to get into the subway station. Follow the signs to get onto the E train bound for Manhattan/World Trade Center. You have a bit of ride ahead of you.

Stay on the E train until you get to the Lexington Avenue/53rd Street station. Get off here and follow the signs to transfer to the 6 train - it's a bit of walking underground. You'll want to get onto a local 6 train heading downtown (bound for Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall). Ride the 6 train to Astor Place. Get off there - you should be at 8 Street and 4th Avenue. Then you can get to whatever NYU building you want to, assuming you're looking for a place in the Washington Square Park area.

Detailed information about the AirTrain came be found at the official website (http://www.panynj.gov/airtrain). If you've never been to JFK Airport or NYC before, I highly suggest at least looking at the website.

If you do have a lot of luggage, SuperShuttle could be a good option. It's a shared ride van service, so they do drop you off right at your dorm, but you might have to wait a while for other people to get off first though. http://www.panynj.gov/CommutingTravel/airports/html/ken_car_service.html

If you know someone going the same place as you, though, taxi can be convenient and fastest. $45 from JFK to anywhere in Manhattan (plus tip). So if you split that you would pay $25. Supershuttle is also a good option, $20 plus tip. But it takes more times, sometimes. Subway is the best, if you have minimal luggage. I usually take the shuttle, cuz I have two bags with me, usually.

I would personally recommend taking the subway from JFK to NYU if you are transporting a minimal amount of luggage. You can use the MTA Trip Planner ( http://tripplanner.mta.info ) or HopStop ( http://www.hopstop.com ) to assist you in planning your trip.
