Transportation/Other questions

My guidance counselor mentioned Bucknell to me earlier this year (I’m a junior) and I’ve been interested ever since. For the last couple of months, I’ve looked around the internet and the Bucknell website for anything I could find on the school, but I’ve still got a few questions that I’ve haven’t been able to answer.

First off, I’ve been wondering about transportation. I know that you can’t feasibly have a car on campus, but what about bikes? I’ve got a new one that I’m hoping will last me through college, but if I can’t bring it, I’m out of luck there. Beyond that, I haven’t found any mention of public busing on campus. Does it exist, or does the university only offer busing on the week-ends and to special events?

I’ve also been wondering about activities off campus. I know that Lewisburg is a small-ish town, so the options are somewhat limited, but what’s out there? Specifically, I’m looking for a bowling alley (I’m not religious about the sport, but I enjoy it immensely) and maybe a martial arts studio (I don’t currently do any, but I’d like to try). Are there any other highlights around the town?

Sorry about the deluge of questions lol…my curiosity has gotten the best of me =] Thanks in advance for any and all answers.

Bikes are huge at Bucknell; there are bike racks outside of every building and for those who don’t wish to bring their own bikes we actually have a Bison Bikes program where you can check out a school-owned bike for a week.

I’m not exactly sure what you mean by public busing; Bucknell does shuttles to Walmart and Weis supermarket every Saturday and the local Selinsgrove mall every Friday. It also does buses to fun spots about once a month, including NYC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, King of Prussia mall, DC, etc. There are also shuttles to the airport and certain cities around breaks, I think there’s one to Boston and there’s probably one or two others.

There are I think 2 bowling alleys in town, I’ve only been to one but it was pretty fun. I’m not sure about a martial arts studio, there’s probably one nearby but I can’t assure you it’s within walking distance.

Other cool things nearby are BOUNCE FUN PLEX aka a world of trampolines and you can play trampoline dodgeball and everyone loves it. There’s also several ice skating rinks and a roller rink. The main street is really excellent and there are lots of great shops and restaurants.

Do you know if any of the ice rinks are within walking distance from campus? My daughter wants to continue with figure skating while at college.
